If you’ve just jumped into the haystack called the Internet today and are still wiping leftovers off your hidden blade, you may not have noticed, but Ubisoft announced a bunch of new games this weekend.
As part of its in-house live show Ubisoft Forward, the French publisher also released what felt like 671 trailers for brands like Assassin’s Creed, Anno, Rainbow Six and The Division. Who is supposed to keep track of all these news and videos? Well, your friendly GameStar editors, of course – and we’ll help you with this overview article, so that you don’t miss anything and can join in the conversation on Mondays..
All Ubisoft announcements about Assassin’s Creed.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
The big round of new AC releases starts with Mirage, a spin-off based on the first few parts of the series, which revolves around the assassin Basim, known from Valhalla. Ubisoft Bordeaux consequently cuts out the role-playing elements of recent series installments, and instead Assassin’s Creed Mirage is supposed to feel more like an action adventure again. We haven’t seen any gameplay yet, but the render trailer clearly brings back memories of parts 1 and 2:
Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red
Fans have been asking for it for years, and now Ubisoft is making the dream come true by releasing a ninja game in Assassin’s Creed guise. Probably in 2024, Codename Red will be released, in which you’ll use katana and hidden blade to slash samurai and other baddies in feudal Japan. This part is supposed to continue the gameplay direction taken with the predecessors to an action role-playing game, so count on inventory, loot and talent trees.
Assassin’s Creed: Codename Witch
Very far away and very mysterious is the third major Assassin’s Creed for PC and consoles. Codename Witch is said to feel “very different” from other series installments, with talk of a return to the action-adventure origins of the series. As for the setting, a leaker talks about 16th century Europe.
An analysis of the trailer and the runes shown already reveals more about Assassin’s Creed Witch, even though the title clearly indicates that it will probably be about the time of witch hunts. Ubisoft has not shown more than a short render trailer so far, and the release is also rumored to be in 2026:
Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade
Ubisoft not only supplies PCs and consoles with new material, smartphone owners can also look forward to more Assassin’s Creed. Codename Jade is supposed to be a “full-fledged” part of the series, and for the first time you can create your own character. The trailer shows the setting – China at the time of the Three Kingdoms – and nice graphics for a mobile game. There is no release date yet, the video only talks about “Coming Soon”:
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: The Last Chapter
You didn’t think Ubisoft had forgotten about its Viking adventure Valhalla, did you? Two years after release, there’s still a final story content in 2022. The Last Chapter will be released as a free update for all owners of the main game. In the trailer, you can see that the loose threads of the story will be brought to a conclusion:
Assassin’s Creed Infinity + Invictus
In the stream, it was only worth a side sentence to the Ubisoft executives, but nevertheless there were interesting news about the two multiplayer projects of Assassin’s Creed. Accordingly, Infinity relies on an Animus-like interface and connects all players and games of the series on an online platform.
The present-day story will also be spun out there in the future, while games integrated into Infinity from launch, such as Codename Red and Codename Witch, will concentrate purely on the historical aspect.
In an interview with GameStar, Ubisoft also talked about a dedicated multiplayer AC called Invictus for the first time. However, they kept quiet about the details. We have already philosophized about how Infinity could work.
Assassin’s Creed series and movies
In parallel with Assassin’s Creed Jade, Ubisoft is working on another mobile game with a series background, exclusively for the gaming portion of Netflix’s subscription service. At the same time, a live-action series with Assassins is currently being created. Now that’s a reason to celebrate! How fitting that Ubisoft has also published a documentary to mark the 15th anniversary of the series:
