Getting a win in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team can be stressful enough. But it’s especially annoying when you lose the points you were hoping for because your opponent simply leaves the game.

But this is exactly what can happen in Ultimate Team, for example in #DivisionRivals or the #WeekendLeague. Here you have to distinguish between certain cases:

• If your opponent leaves the game while you are leading, everything is fine – then you usually get the victory.
• If, on the other hand, your opponent leaves during a draw, he gets a loss – but you don’t get a win. Then you can only repeat the game against a new opponent.

The latter situation can really suck when you’re hunting for rewards, because victories matter here. But the whole thing is especially bitter in examples like these situations:

• Your opponent happily equalizes in the last minute after you dominated the game. Instead of going into overtime, he leaves the game and takes away your chance to win.
• The other way around: You’ve fought your way to an equalizer after a long, hard game and might even turn the game around – but your opponent takes off.
• Especially bitter: The game is tied shortly before the end and you get a penalty kick, but the opponent breaks the connection and you don’t get to take it.
• Your opponent gets red cards and has a weakened team, but instead of playing on, he runs away with a draw.

These are just examples, but they can – and sometimes do – happen again and again in FUT. What’s especially nasty about it is that the opponent basically gains nothing from it, except maybe time and the fact that you don’t get a win yourself.

This handling has been a thorn in the side of many players for a long time. Also in the FIFA-subreddit this has been discussed again.

Player angry: “I played the whole game and extra time for nothing”.

A post has been shared in the FIFA subreddit that has collected over 1,000 upvotes and more than 200 comments as of today.

User “oohjustalittlebit” explains there that from his point of view a lot of toxicity would be taken out of the game if conceding – or leaving the game – by the opponent would basically mean that you get the victory yourself.

“If someone quits the game halfway through, the other person should just get the win in the end,” the post reads. “The number of people who quit when they score a lucky equalizer or just take a penalty or just don’t feel like playing you anymore is obscene” (via reddit).

Several users comment below that they’ve been wishing for a change in that direction for a long time:

• “This should have happened years ago, and I’m still baffled that it hasn’t,” writes user Hack-a-Lonzo (via reddit).
• “We’ve been asking for this for years, at least give us a valid explanation for this bullshit,” criticizes user “pwomboli” (via reddit)
• “I have so many people giving up because they don’t feel like playing against my possession based style of play and the only reason I play this style of play is because everyone plays on 10 deep counters and it’s impossible to play quickly through their defense once you’re in Div1/Elite,” describes user “RichHii3” (via reddit).
• “I played a Classic Cup match where the opponent conceded because they missed the first penalty in the shootout,” reports another user (via reddit): “It would have taken just a few minutes longer to finish the game and it would still have been 0-0. […] It’s crazy how far people will go to avoid defeat. That should have been counted 100% as a win, after all, I played the whole game and overtime for nothing.”

Overall, most commentators are in favor of such a change. However, some also address that it could potentially create new problems. For example, players might start trying to make you quit by being annoying when they know they could get a quick win that way.
