Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Die M14 kann im Einzelspieler von Call of Duty 4 nicht erhalten werden, dafür aber im Multiplayer. Sie feuert
semi-automatic, has high damage and strong accuracy due to low recoil, making it more effective at longer distances than other assault rifles. The attachments available are the grenade launcher, the red dot sight, the silencer and the ACOG sight.
Multiplayer
The M14 is considered a weapon that you either love or hate. There are two reasons for this – you love it for its high damage or hate it for its rather cumbersome rate of fire. Like the G3, the M14 is very popular in hardcore game modes because it sends any opponent to kingdom come with one hit.
Add the ACOG sight to the M14 and it is similar to the M21 with ACOG, but with less damage and more recoil. This is why the M21 with ACOG is more popular for the most part, as its only drawbacks are less ammo and lower hip-fire accuracy, which people are willing to forgo for the ranged combat advantages. If you play maps with the SAS or the Spetznas, the M21 also gives you a camouflage suit, another advantage. In hardcore game modes, the tide turns. The M14 starts with almost three times as much ammo as the M21, can take down any player with one shot even if they use Juggernaut, and therefore recoil is no longer an obstacle as long as the player is an accurate shooter.
The M14 with silencer is the ultimate replacement for a silenced sniper rifle. However, this tactic is more suitable for mid-range combat, because for long-range combat you lack the scope and the ability to kill with one hit. Fortunately, the silencer makes the sight a bit clearer. It prevents muzzle flash, giving you a better view of your target.
Of course, the above again doesn’t count for hardcore game modes, where the M14 will take out any enemy with one shot, unless there’s solid material between the bullet and the victim. The sights, which can’t really zoom in, still prevent a long range shot most of the time. Thanks to the higher damage than the G3, you also don’t have to use damage-boosting extras and can therefore customize your class much more. An example is Juggernaut, which allows you to withstand more.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
The M14 returns in Black Ops, but it looks quite different from its predecessor. It is mostly made of wood,
has a pistol grip, a folded tripod that is unusable, and no rails for attachments. It is more like the M14 EBR from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Campaign
The M14 appears in the SOG mission and is used there by American soldiers, mostly with a grenade launcher, an ACOG sight or without attachments. It also has a dust camouflage. Besides from fallen soldiers, it can also be found in a weapons bunker, next to the M16 just before throwing the napalm barrels into the trenches of the NVA.
Multiplayer
At level 9, the M14 is the third unlockable and first semi-automatic assault rifle in multiplayer, costing 2000 COD points. It has 20 bullets in the magazine (30 with the magazine expansion), does high damage, has strong recoil and mostly kills with 2-3 shots in the normal game modes, making it best suited for ranged combat. The M14 benefits greatly from sights. With a grip and an ACOG sight, it is comparable to a sniper rifle. The ACOG also reduces upward recoil because the crosshairs are so thin, so with this attachment, the M14 can defeat most assault rifles at medium range with ease if you aim properly. Steeled Pro is useful because it often goes a long way on accuracy once you’re shot. With the grip, recoil is as low as it gets and the sights reset to their original position after each shot.
Because of its semi-auto fire mode, the M14 is rather a ridiculous choice in close combat. This can be changed with a flamethrower or masterkey. A player with a quick trigger finger might even have a chance when shooting from the hip, because the weapon only needs two shots to kill. At the same time, steady hand is a welcome support.
The M14 can play a wide range of roles, including as a rifle for a master marksman and a silenced weapon for a ninja. Nimbleness is not mandatory because the magazine has 20 bullets and the reload time is kept within limits. You can get a maximum of 10 shots out of a magazine before you have to reload. The Pro version of Nimbleness is totally useful and lets the player target faster. Steeled or Warlord is still probably the better choice, because almost nothing is as deadly as an M14 with grip and ACOG sights. Thanks to the low minimum damage, the silencer doesn’t change the weapon’s stats too much.
In hardcore game modes, however, the M14 really shines, killing everyone with one hit unless the opponent has Second Chance. With an ACOG sight and a silencer, it’s a deadly yet silent sniper rifle with no swing and a huge magazine.
Survival Combat
The M14 appears on all survival combat maps except Dead Ops Arcade. It’s extremely useful in early rounds because you can buy it for 500 points on the wall in any starter room, but it soon loses its effectiveness because it has a mere 8 bullets in the magazine instead of 20. Headshots kill zombies only until round 3.
Locations
- In Cinema of the Dead you have to go up the stairs where you are spawned, at the top it hangs on the wall in the middle.
- In Five, the M14 hangs to the left of the giant screen where you spawned.
- In Ascension, it hangs just to the left of the wall after you exit the landing craft.
- In Call of the Dead, the M14 hangs from a wooden board on the bridge just to the right of the player’s spawn.
- In Shangri-La, it hangs on a wooden board next to the gong, to the right of the Quick Revive machine.
- In Moon, it hangs on the left after you open the first door on Moon Base after going down the stairs.
It’s best to use the M14 in the first rounds because it takes half a magazine to finish off a zombie from round 5, though you can last a bit longer if you aim for the heads. Ammo can be bought for 250 points on the wall, upgraded ammo costs 4500 points.
It takes a long time to replace a completely empty magazine, so it’s best to stop reloading as soon as the numbers reappear on the ammo display. The time to knife is not fast, but it’s not impossible either. Speed Cola, Double Fire Malt Beer, and Death Daiquiri are the perfect perks for the M14 because Speed Cola speeds up reloading, Double Fire Malt Beer increases the rate of fire in close combat, and Death Daiquiri makes the best use of headshots.
Punched, the M14 becomes the “Mnesia.” It kills with one headshot until round 13. The Mnesia gets a grip for less recoil and a magazine with 16 bullets and 192 bullets in reserve. Thanks to the really high damage multipliers, the Mnesia is one of the strongest wall weapons when it comes to damage per shot.
The weapon triggers spells on almost all characters, which usually revolve around its weight. It’s best to compare it to the M1 Garand from Call of Duty: World at War, because they have the same sights, both 8 bullets in the magazine and high damage in the first rounds.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
The M14 reappears in Black Ops II’s Survival Battle, looking like the M14 from Black Ops,
but with a synthetic cover, no longer wood, and when firing it makes other sounds. It also no longer has a tripod under the barrel.
The M14 costs 500 points again and hangs on TranZit in the first room you start in, in Nuketown Zombies at the back of the bus, in Buried next to the elevator with Quick Revive and next to the metal door in the spawn area in Mob of the Dead.
Info
General
- In Survival Combat, the M14 chalk line used the M1 Garand chalk line from World at War.
Modern Warfare
- The model of the M14 in the game is almost identical to the M21, the only differences being the scope, rear sight and longer barrel.
Black Ops
- When you unpack the M14, it looks exactly like the AK-47, plus the reload animation has been copied from the M14 EBR from Modern Warfare 2.
- In Survival, for unknown reasons, the M14 only has 8 bullets in the magazine, while in Campaign and Multiplayer it has 20. Combined with the sights, this makes the M14 the reincarnation of the M1 Garand in Black Ops.\
- The weapon’s wooden casing is removed as soon as you apply camouflage, and the sling around the weapon changes as well.
- Like most assault rifles, the M14 gets a heat shield when you buy a grenade launcher or a flamethrower, which looks similar to the M16. However, the protective covering on top is missing, as it would otherwise block the sight.
- At some point in the game, you could once unfold the tripod of the M14, because that version still exists in the game files.
- If you punch it, the new name is “Mnesia”, a reference to the mental condition “amnesia”, in which the victim loses his memories.
- This is one of only two weapons in the game whose magazine does not change externally with a magazine expansion, the other being the M60.
- The M14 is the only assault rifle for which a grip is available for purchase.
- The M14 and the G11 are the only assault rifles for which there is no double magazine.
- If one uses underbarrel attachments (other than the grip), the sling and tripod come off on the rifle.
- If you look closely when reloading, you can see that the tripod is missing the right support.
Black Ops II
- The M14 no longer has the sling and tripod from Black Ops.
- It has the same firing sound as the FAL OSW.
- The reloading sound might sound familiar to some, as it is that of the L96A1 from Black Ops.
- When sprinting with the Mnesia, the sprint animation from Black Ops is used, not the one from Black Ops II.
Call of Duty
The Call of Duty series has existed since 2003 and in addition to various spin-offs, including for the handheld systems Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, 14 major titles of the series have now been released. Ever since the first part of the series, great emphasis has been placed on the online multiplayer mode in addition to the single-player campaign, which is also reflected in the development of the shooter series. Since the first Call of Duty, World at War, which was developed exclusively by Treyarch, each part also included cooperative challenges that you could play together with friends. The latest installment, Call of Duty: World War II, also features an extended multiplayer mode that puts you and your friends in the combat zones and famous battles of World War II. Using the divisions, you’ll be able to choose between the deadly sniper and the brute armored division and support your comrades in battle. In addition, World War II also has a zombie mode “Nazi Zombies”, as in its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops. Face the monsters of the Third Reich and win glory and honor.
