The Dragunov is a Russian semi-automatic sniper rifle featured in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty : Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Campaign
The Dragunov is used by the Ultranationalists, the Loyalists and the OpFor. It is the most common
Sniper rifle in single player mode and can be found in most missions. Unlike the multiplayer variant, the Dragunov basically has no recoil at all in the campaign, but it does have a fire limit, while in multiplayer you can shoot as often as you like.
Multiplayer
The Dragunov is unlocked at level 22. As for all sniper rifles, the only available attachment is the ACOG sight. It can kill an enemy with one hit to the chest or higher (including arms). Furthermore, it is one of the six weapons for which the gold camouflage is available. If the goal is to kill with one hit, the Dragunov is probably the best sniper rifle without the extra firepower. Along with the Barrett .50cal and the R700, it does the most damage without the extra and has a high limit of fire. This leaves room for another Extra 2. The Dragunov is also extremely effective in hardcore game modes. However, you should always keep the length of the weapon in mind, sometimes the barrel sticks out of cover and gives away your position.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (DS)
The Dragunov appears on the DS as one of two sniper rifles and additionally as the
only semi-automatic. It looks very similar to the console versions, but much brighter. As in the campaign from the console version, the Dragunov has a limit of fire, although it is semi-automatic. When you fire, you can hear a lever being loaded through. For many players, because of this and the low rate of fire, it is considered a straight pull breech rifle, but still a better one than the M40A3. It can be used by the player only in the Exodus mission.
Multiplayer
The Dragunov is the insurgents’ sniper rifle, however, it makes no difference at all to the M40A3 because both sniper rifles kill with one hit to the body, no matter where you hit. Besides, both weapons have only one bullet in the magazine.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The Dragunov returns in Modern Warfare 2, but only in the campaign and Special Forces, among
the new name SVD. It has the same fire sound and reload animation as in Call of Duty 4, but the weapon is a bit more detailed. It is especially used by the Brazilian militia and the ultra-nationalists. You can find it in the following missions:
- In the museum, but not in a showcase for weapons, but in the hands of a man from the militia and a Speznas soldier.
- The only beautiful day…was yesterday – on the roof, after placing C4 on the corpses.
- Cliffhanger – on one of the lookouts used by Russian snipers.
- The hornet’s nest – in the first fight in the first building there is one leaning against a wall.
- Loose ends – in the house with the armory on the second floor next to the ammo rack by the M240.
- Emergency – next to the M240s on the submarine.
- The enemy of my enemy – is dropped randomly by ultranationalists.
The front lens is still on the gun, which is pretty clear. You can find it with arctic or forest camouflage. Another important change is that you can now see the lever. There is one more difference from the other weapons in Modern Warfare 2; when you reload, you hold the weapon with the magazine to the right, all other weapons are held with the magazine to the left.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Campaign
The Dragunov appears in the Crash Site, Presidential Decree and Numbers missions. In the latter.
Dragunov often found with infrared sights.
Multiplayer
The Dragunov is the first sniper rifle in multiplayer, as it is unlocked at the same time as the class editor. It is also part of a standard class. The Dragunov kills with one hit to the upper chest, neck or head (with silencer only neck and head) and two hits to the rest of the body, which puts it on par with the WA2000. The Dragunov has the largest magazine and most spare ammo of any sniper rifle, but higher recoil than the WA2000 and less damage than the PSG-1, making it a middle ground between the two.
Because of its large magazine, the Dragunov also always spawns with more reserve ammunition than the other sniper rifles; its 40 rounds in reserve are almost as much as the reserve ammunition of the two high-damage sniper rifles combined. Along with its large magazine, the Dragunov still has the fastest reloading animation in its category. Unlike the WA2000, it has the normal zoom of a sniper rifle, the former having had it reduced.
Because of its low damage, the Dragunov (like the WA2000) is better suited for a silencer than the two more powerful sniper rifles. After a patch on April 28 on Playstation 3, the Dragunov accidentally had the same sight as the WA2000 and the L96A1, but shortly after its unique sight was restored.
Survival
The Dragunov is available on all maps at the mystery crate. It is a good support weapon until turn 8, from then on it loses its strength. If you punch it, its new name is “D115 Disassembler”. It then has higher damage and variable zoom, which allows it to kill with one hit until round 22 and with one headshot until round 34.
Before punching, the Dragunov does slightly less damage than the L96A1, but both sniper rifles do the same damage after punching, so the Dragunov is better because of its higher rate of fire and greater ammo reserves.
Call of Duty: Black Ops (DS)
The Dragunov appears as one of the two sniper rifles in the game, however you can switch to other
weapons also mount a scope. The Dragunov has five bullets in the magazine, shoots semi-automatically, and has a low rate of fire that makes it function like a straight pull breech rifle (this was done to be fair, as the other sniper rifle, the M40, functions with a straight pull breech). You can attach a silencer. Both in multiplayer and in the campaign, the Dragunov is the sniper rifle of the Soviets, Viet Cong and Cubans. In multiplayer it is unlocked from the beginning, the silencer is unlocked after 100 kills with it. It is also available in zombie mode for 950 points at the mysterious crate.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Campaign
The Dragunov appears only in the mission Back to Sender.
Multiplayer
The Dragunov behaves like its predecessors, that is, it is semi-automatic and has 10 bullets in the magazine. It is unlocked at level 12. It has an extremely high fire limit, just like the Barrett .50cal, but with more mobility. But unlike in the previous games, it is not as effective, as you can only kill instantly with a headshot. Fortunately, the recoil is low, thus allowing the player to fire several shots in quick succession. Therefore, it plays more of a mid-range support weapon role, but can also be used in ranged combat.
The ACOG sight can be very helpful, because the range in which you kill with one hit is small anyway, plus the recoil is controllable. With the ACOG sight, you can keep a better eye on the surroundings and have higher precision in close combat. The disadvantage, however, is that the range also deteriorates with the swing of the sight.
Another option is without question the thermal sight, because it not only allows accurate shots, but also increases the range of the Dragunov. It may not always be easy when going up against a player using a more powerful sniper rifle with a Dragunov, but the thermal sight makes it easier to pick out the head.
The RSASS is often considered a better sniper rifle because it has a larger magazine, more ammo, and the same damage in the process. However, the Dragunov excels in mobility, while the RSASS lifts as heavily as a light machine gun.
Overall, among sniper rifles, the Dragunov fulfills more of a role as a support weapon in mid-range combat, precisely because of its mobility and messy recoil from a distance. However, if you still want to play the classic sniper with the Dragunov, you can always lie down. While lying down, all sniper rifles have significantly less recoil.
Update 16 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 improved the Dragunov a bit, since then its recoil goes almost straight up, making it easier to place subsequent shots. Now it’s already more on par with the RSASS.
Survival combat
In Survival Combat, the Dragunov is available for purchase from level 16 and costs $2000. Just like in multiplayer, it has high mobility, medium to high recoil (depending on your position) and an acceptable ammo capacity, which is perfectly sufficient for the first rounds. To avoid looking old in close combat, you can use the ACOG sight. However, when the better troops appear, it loses its strength, from then on you should buy a better weapon.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance
The Dragunov appears again in Defiance and actually remains the same as in the predecessors in terms of stats. The only differences are a new crosshair, a new lens, and a blue border has been drawn around the scope.
Campaign
Compared to the other Russian weapons, the Dragunov is rather rare. Its biggest appearance is in In Cover, where you have to take out enemy soldiers from a long distance. In other missions it is almost impossible to find.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
The Dragunov has again the old appearance from the first part of the Black Ops series, but are
the wooden parts are no longer brown, but green. It only appears in the campaign, in the missions that play in 1980, but after you unlock it, you can use it in 2025.
Campaign
The Dragunov appears for the first time already in the first mission Phyrrus Victory, in the hut where the bear traps are located. Initially it has little ammo left in the magazine, but by finding an ammo box you can fill it up again. The Dragunov is excellent for providing cover for Hudson, who carries Woods safely to the end of the mission.
In the Time and Destiny mission, a Dragunov lies in one of the mansion’s accessible towers. She can be used to eliminate the cartel in the courtyard and the windows across the street. It almost always kills in one shot, unless you hit legs, etc. Thanks to the low recoil, you can also shoot in quick succession.
Advanced Warfare
It is only available in the Multiplaye and you get it together with the Blunderbuss and the STG-44 via the current game update. The correct name in the class editor is SVO and, like the other update weapons, it will only be available online and only for the next-gen consoles (and PC).

Call of Duty
The Call of Duty series has existed since 2003 and in addition to various spin-offs, including for the handheld systems Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, 14 major titles of the series have now been released. Ever since the first part of the series, great emphasis has been placed on the online multiplayer mode in addition to the single-player campaign, which is also reflected in the development of the shooter series. Since the first Call of Duty, World at War, which was developed exclusively by Treyarch, each part also included cooperative challenges that you could play together with friends. The latest installment, Call of Duty: World War II, also features an extended multiplayer mode that puts you and your friends in the combat zones and famous battles of World War II. Using the divisions, you’ll be able to choose between the deadly sniper and the brute armored division and support your comrades in battle. In addition, World War II also has a zombie mode “Nazi Zombies”, as in its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops. Face the monsters of the Third Reich and win glory and honor.
