The crossbow is a special weapon from Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. It’s silent, but works without a silencer, has great power and can shoot both normal and explosive arrows that are affected by gravity during flight.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Campaign
The crossbow appears as the third of the five swap weapons in the Presidential Decree mission and in the third and final
Section of the mission mass destruction. It can shoot two different types of ammunition, explosive arrows and normal arrows. It also has a built-in variable zoom that lets the player hold their breath and zoom in. When firing from the hip, the weapon is surprisingly accurate, and although it’s quite powerful, you’ll have to hit the head or chest to take out an enemy instantly. Unlike other weapons with a scope, you can reload the crossbow while in your sights.
Multiplayer
The crossbow is also available in multiplayer and is unlocked at level 33. There are no attachments available and it always shoots with explosive arrows. Unlike in the campaign, the arrows fall to the ground after a certain distance due to gravity. Together with the ballistic knife and the tomahawk, it is one of three weapons in the Stock and Stone betting game. It also appears as the 19th weapon in the weapons game. When you get hit by an arrow, the screen flashes red, you hear a beeping sound and the symbol of an arrow appears in front of you. Now you have no chance of escaping death and will be killed along with all your teammates who are in the blast radius after 1.5 seconds. You still have one last option, which is to rush towards your attacker and hope to take him to his death with the explosion, but this is not very reliable and almost impossible if the target has bulletproof vest.
If you use the crossbow in conjunction with Raider Pro, you have a total of five arrows. Also, it is one of the few secondary weapons (aside from pistols) that renews its ammo through pistols, the other being the ballistic knife. Paired with Nimbleness Pro, you have explosives as a secondary weapon that can be renewed at any time and also reloads even faster than the rocket launchers. Using Agility, you can also easily fulfill the Pro Challenge of wounding ten enemies, reloading, and then eliminating them. You just have to hit someone with the arrow to do the damage, reload quickly and wait for the victim to explode.
In hardcore game modes, getting hit by an arrow is instant death. In normal game modes, it only works if the victim was already heavily shot or is in Second Chance. The crossbow has no damage multipliers for the head, but a direct hit still counts as a headshot.
Survival Combat
The crossbow can be obtained in Survival Combat for 950 points at the mystery crate, this applies to all maps except Moon. The long reload time becomes a danger especially in single player, because you are exposed to the zombies’ blows. Also, the large blast radius can shock the player with ease, unless you have Dr. Rivet.
Punched is the crossbow to the Terrible Lawton. Its arrows magically attract the zombies no matter where they land, so just like the Monkey Bomb, however, this distraction phase is shorter than the special grenades, unless you bought Quick Revive, which extends this time a bit. When you shoot a zombie with the Terrible Lawton, it tries to pull the arrow out of its body with a funny animation.
Speed Cola helps with the long reload animation and Juggernog keeps you safe when a hit zombie gets too close. Double fire malt beer has no effect because it is a single shot weapon. Dr. Rivet is also highly recommended because you can basically stand right on top of the exploding arrow without getting paralyzed or taking damage. The crossbow can be a great secondary weapon, especially if you punch it, because it’s really supportive once you need to revive a teammate or there are too many zombies present.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
The crossbow reappears in Black Ops II in a slightly different form. It can shoot three shots,
Just like in the predecessor, the arrows are again subject to the laws of gravity, so if you aim at a target from a certain distance, you should raise the crosshairs slightly to hit it. The blast radius is much smaller now than it was then, but a direct hit still means guaranteed death for the person hit. The capacity and rate of fire compensate for these drawbacks, but compared to its predecessor, the crossbow is still relatively difficult to use. The player has to wind the crossbow before firing another shot, but this happens relatively quickly. With Bulletproof Vest, enemies sometimes survive a direct hit, so it takes two arrows to get the kill. This also applies to people with mission shields, because if you hit the shield, they don’t die immediately, but merely take damage, so you need several arrows as well.
It is possible for a player to die from the impact of the arrow even before the explosion, as with grenade launchers. This is especially noticeable in hardcore game modes, where a direct impact always means immediate death of the opponent, no matter in which part of the body the arrow lands.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Multiplayer
In Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, the crossbow appears as a special weapon in multiplayer and shoots explosive arrows and has a unique scope.

Exo-Zombies
In Exo-Zombies, you can get the crossbow from the 3D printer for 1000 points. Their explosive power is still extremely high in the first initial rounds, but then weakens over time.

- The scavenger has the same icon for picking it up as the crossbow.
- Unlike in the other zombie maps, the crossbow is not available on Moon, probably because most areas lack gravity and thus the weapon would be useless.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
- If you take a close look at the back part of the weapon, you can see the two stripes from the logo of Black Ops II
Call of Duty
The Call of Duty series has existed since 2003 and in addition to various spin-offs, including for the handheld systems Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, 14 major titles of the series have now been released. Ever since the first part of the series, great emphasis has been placed on the online multiplayer mode in addition to the single-player campaign, which is also reflected in the development of the shooter series. Since the first Call of Duty, World at War, which was developed exclusively by Treyarch, each part also included cooperative challenges that you could play together with friends. The latest installment, Call of Duty: World War II, also features an extended multiplayer mode that puts you and your friends in the combat zones and famous battles of World War II. Using the divisions, you’ll be able to choose between the deadly sniper and the brute armored division and support your comrades in battle. In addition, World War II also has a zombie mode “Nazi Zombies”, as in its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops. Face the monsters of the Third Reich and win glory and honor.
