Call of Duty Warzone is expected to continue to exist after the release of Warzone 2.0. It’s back to the warzone! A few days ago, publisher Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will still be released in 2022. The publisher still owes us an exact release date, but the release for this year seems to be safe for now. All the more, many Warzone fans fear that the first part will be cancelled as soon as Warzone 2.0 is released. But Activison can take away this worry.
Both Warzone parts coexist
As Activision announced on the official site, the previous Warzone will not be discontinued, contrary to initial fears. The servers will remain online after the release of Warzone 2.0 and offer numerous players* the possibility to continue with their previous game progress.
What does this mean?
Both Warzone titles will run side-by-side. This means that you will have separate game progress and inventory for both titles, and will not be able to transfer anything between the two games. Warzone will continue as a “standalone experience,” at least that’s how Activision describes it. The publisher plans to explain what that means in the future, as more details are to follow in the coming time.
Warzone 2.0 is supposed to include content from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. What you can expect with it, very you in the corresponding announcement trailer:
Great concern about platform choice
What advantages could this have?
Since the Warzone servers will not be shut down, you will be able to keep all the skins and experience levels you have earned, and you won’t have to start over if you don’t want to. Warzone 2.0 is scheduled to be released for PS4 and Xbox One, just like Warzone, alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. As a result, many gamers* are worried that there might be problems on PS4 and Xbox One thanks to the new graphics engine and more modern technology. The first Warzone part already caused headaches for many users, because it didn’t run smoothly on the older consoles due to the weaker hardware. For many users, it is therefore clear that the previous Warzone only has a raison d’être because of the PS4 and Xbox One versions. In addition, the console scarcity of the current generation could play a further role, because not everyone interested has been able to get hold of a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S so far.
What do we know about Warzone 2.0 so far?
Activision has already shared some features of the new Warzone experience. You can find all the info about the release date, the engine and other features in Warzone 2.0 on GamePro.
Will you play both Warzone titles in parallel or choose one over the other?
