In League of Legends there is the new champion Vex with the patch 11.9. The grumpy mage is much too strong at the start and gets a nerf via hotfix shortly after the launch.
This is the new mage:
- Vex is a Yordle mage who was created to be an “emo”. Everything is somehow repugnant to her and annoys her. Especially hyperactive champions jumping around her can’t stand Vex at all.
- Her abilities are therefore designed to counter “agile champions” and take them out quickly. However, Vex herself is also agile, which is unusual for a female mage. She goes into close combat and can leap across the map.
- Even beforehand, there was speculation that her Ultimate in particular might be far too strong, as that can be detonated multiple times in a row. In live action, however, it was her Passive and Q that caused a lot of trouble: Vex seemed easy to play, but did a lot of damage, especially in mid- and endgame.
League of Legends unveils new champion Vex – This is what we know about the dark mage
“I can play them with one hand”
That’s how strong Vex was at the beginning: In the first 24 hours after release, Vex had a win rate of 50.67%. That doesn’t sound like much, but usually champs in LoL start with low win rates because everyone wants to play them, even people who don’t know how to play this type of champion.
However, in the hands of real midlane experts, like the Korean World Champion Rookie, Vex turns into a death machine.
Quickly, videos circulated on reddit of the mage scoring kills in an assembly line and just jumping and raging across half the map with her Ultimate.
These are the nerfs: Vex’s gameplay strength was apparently indeed a problem, which not only showed up in spectacular videos or flashed up in forum discussions, but was also reflected in tangible data that Riot Games uses as a guide for balancing.
Already on Saturday, September 25, less than 24 hours after the release of Vex, came the first nerf:
- Vex’s passive damage bonus was significantly lowered, from 30 -180 (and 25% bonus to skill strength) it went down to 30 -140 (and 20% bonus to AP)
- The base damage of the skill Q was reduced in mid- and endgame.
From Riot Games it is said that they will continue to keep an eye on Vex. Nerfs could follow in patch 11.20 or in further hotfixes.
In contrast to the new heroine Vex, who seemed far too strong, it was the other way around with the last new hero in League of Legends:
Everyone was afraid of the new champ in LoL – But Akshan is a loser, needs help patch.
