Valorant: XSET accuses OpTic of abusing breaks

In Istanbul, Turkey, the best teams of 2022 are currently competing in “” to win the title of world champion. During a semi-final match in the upper bracket of the play-offs, there was a clash between the North American teams XSET and OpTic, who are among the candidates for the overall victory. OpTic won the duel with 2:1, but afterwards faced accusations of cheating from the other side.

Abuse of technical breaks?

XSET captain Rory “dephh” Jackson, when asked by the press if OpTic was using special mind games after so many duels against XSET, stated the following, “I think the only mind game OpTic uses is to cause a technical break during important rounds or before important rounds. As it seems, there is always a technical break when we play against them.”

The Brit explained this thought further, “The technical breaks today seemed to destroy some of the momentum. They came at quite bad times after tactical breaks, big round wins, things like that. That’s very unfortunate and really bad for a team that’s very much going for momentum and just wants to get on with it, but then has to wait half an hour lap after lap.”

Don “SyykoNT” Muir, the coach of XSET, corroborated his player’s thoughts and confirmed that he has already raised this issue with Riot Games. According to him, OpTic Gaming does it on purpose: “Whether we play against them online or here on stage. If we are winning, there is a technical break. If we time out, there’s a technical break. That’s intentional and, in my eyes, an abuse of the rulebook.”

During the series between XSET and OpTic in Istanbul, there were two technical breaks, both triggered by OpTic. In the second interruption, which happened during the decisive game, they changed the PC of an OpTic player. The reason was probably stuttering, which irritated “Victor” Wong while playing.

OpTic stands up to it

These accusations are not going down well with OpTic. The team’s coach, Chet “Chet” Singh, responded to Twitter: “What poor sportsmanship from XSET. We don’t have to cheat to beat you guys, sorry. If our PC doesn’t work, then we pause. Riot wouldn’t allow us to abuse that.”

OpTic’s players echoed their coach’s words. Captain Pujan “FNS” Mehta said, “We don’t have to cheat to beat them.”

His teammate Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker stated: “I am somewhat saddened that we are being accused of using technical breaks to our advantage. An admin confirmed the problem and saw it with his own eyes.”

This seems to settle the matter for the parties involved for now – for XSET, there must have been some frustration at having been defeated once again by their big regional rival. For OpTic, it’s on to Champions 2022 against Brazilian team LOUD on September 16, 2022, while XSET will fight for its tournament life against FunPlus Phoenix in the Lower Bracket on September 13, 2022.
