What is this update?

Since August 31, the update with version number 0.219.0 has been in roll-out and has been gradually unlocked for players. On September 8, the developers published the patch notes, explaining what the update changes.

What has changed?

In the following overview we show you the patch notes and rank them according to that:

  • Battle team suggestions now weight a Pokémon’s “damage per second” value more heavily
  • The display duration of EP notifications has been reduced
  • Improvements in the displayed German language
  • Coaches can now save their coach achievement card to their device multiple times

  • Fixed a bug where remote raid invitations continued to be displayed even though they had already expired
  • Fixed a bug where trainers were not given the opportunity for a rematch after fighting Team GO Rocket
  • Fixed a bug where the shadows of sunglasses were not displayed correctly in GO League battles
  • Fixed a bug where Event Galar Pokémon were not displayed in the Event PokéDex.
  • Fixed a bug that showed incorrect evolution for Nachtara and Psiana.
  • Fixed a bug where the daily spin at the Pokéstop counted even though the trainer’s bags were full
  • Fixed a bug where the button for “New Attack” looked clickable even though the trainer did not have enough stardust
  • Fixed a bug where the map would briefly show when animating a hatching egg

Why the battle team change is so important

What the community says:

One change from the patch notes that is being really celebrated on reddit is that of the combat teams. It is written about this:

• “This is huge in my opinion”
• “If it actually works, a long overdue improvement”
• “But I’m betting that the damage to [Pokémon mit] two charge attacks is still calculated as an average, so the best attacker has less weight than one with only one charge attack.”
• “And Bye, Stolloss”

That’s what makes the change so good:

When you join a raid to defeat a raid boss alone or with a group of other trainers, Pokémon GO will first suggest a “recommended team” for that scenario. To do this, the game scans your Pokémon collection and places attackers from it into your 6 slots that it deems “good”.

Unfortunately, in the past this selection has included some pretty bad Pokémon, and good ones have been ignored or weighted weaker. For example, the game often suggests Stollos as an attacker. Why Stollos is almost always a bad choice in Pokémon GO.

Beginners and casual players in particular often don’t know any better and rely on this pre-selection by the game. As a result, open groups that take casuals and beginners often have trouble dealing enough damage. That’s why this change, if implemented really well, is an important one.
