Two World Cup modes for women and men

The Reveal trailer of FIFA 23 confirmed what was already suspected in advance. The last FIFA part gets equal World Cup game modes. Both for men’s and women’s teams.

Update 20.07.2022: Now it’s official. The World Cup will be represented in FIFA 23. But this is not as thought only once, but twice. Both the Men’s World Cup, which will start on November 21, 2022 in Qatar, and the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which will start on July 20, 2023, will get their own modes in FIFA 23.

FIFA 23 has the peculiarity that two World Cups will take place within one year. If the Qatar World Cup would have started already in summer, it would have been implemented in FIFA 22. So EA can present two world championships licensed for the last FIFA part of the series. However, it is not yet known which contents the two World Cup modes of FIFA 23 will offer.

Original news from 12 July 2022: Doha, Qatar – As temperatures continue to soar, soccer fans are getting the feeling that something is missing for the perfect summer. A major international tournament is sorely missed. The 2022 World Cup won’t start until November due to weather conditions in host country Qatar. FIFA 23 players should be able to enjoy the World Cup a bit earlier. EA hinted at its own game mode.

FIFA 23: EA announces content for the 2022 World Cup – Team game mode like in previous years?

World Cup game modes in FIFA: The World Cup is the biggest tournament in professional soccer. No other competition captivates as many spectators as the World Cup. So it is only understandable if EA wants to integrate the tournament in their soccer simulation series. This already happened in FIFA 14 and FIFA 18, and it could be the case again in the upcoming FIFA 23.

EA comments on the 2022 World CupUp to now EA held back with official information about the upcoming FIFA offshoot. However, considering that FIFA 23 will be the last game with the iconic naming rights, EA was tempted to make a statement, which also concerns the potential World Cup mode. “We are committed to making the next FIFA our best yet, with more features, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions and players than any FIFA title before.

This could be a FUT game mode. EA already released a separate World Cup mode in Ultimate Team for the 2014 and 2018 World Cups with maps of the participating countries. Since the World Cup 2022 in Qatar will start on November 21, the World Cup mode will not be released in FIFA 22, but in the upcoming FIFA 23. Shortly before the start of the World Cup 2022, the virtual mode should be launched.

FIFA 23: EA under pressure – World Cup 2022 in Qatar extremely controversial

Qatar World Cup in focus: Already in 2018, voices were raised against the host country Russia. This year, too, there have been no fewer opponents. More and more soccer fans are calling for a boycott of the 2022 World Cup. The reason for this are the conditions that were contrary to human rights during the construction of the stadiums for the guest workers.

According to Amnesty International, several thousand workers have died in the period since the construction project for the World Cup began. EA is now also in the spotlight. Possibly this could be the last World Cup game mode in a game from EA after the loss of the license. However, the publisher is well advised not to put Qatar in the focus. There is also more pleasant news. For example, a German striker legend will return as an icon in FIFA 23.
