Twitch streamer announces return to e-sports

Michael “” Grzesiek turned his back on e-sports in 2018 and became a full-time streamer on Twitch. When asked why the 28-year-old didn’t want to play professionally anymore, he replied that it was a lot of work and he was too lazy to do it. Now shroud seems to have changed his mind and announced that he will participate in the e-sports team Sentinels at the LCQ in Valorant.

What did shroud’s career look like before? Before Grzesiek became one of the biggest streamers on Twitch and someone even paid 43,000 euros to play with him for an hour, he was a professional player in the shooter Counter Strike: Global Offensive. At one point, he was referred to as a “human Aimbot” and a “shooter god”.

From 2013 to 2018, shroud pursued his e-sports career on a wide variety of teams. His marriage began in 2015 at Cloud9, when he won 2 tournaments and finished 2nd in another. Grzesiek never fell below 8th place with his squad and usually finished on the podium.

In August 2017, shroud decided to be only a substitute player for Cloud9 and focus more on streaming. In 2018, he quit his seat completely and since then dedicated himself only to his Twitch channel.

According to his own statements, he actually didn’t want to return to e-sports, however, that now seems to have changed over a leisurely dinner.

Shroud’s far-reaching decision at dinner

How did the turnaround come about? The “Shooter God” talked in a stream about being asked to be the 5th team member of Sentinels at NA LCQ over dinner at 11pm (via Twitch).

In response, the streamer simply replied “yes” and was ready to boot camp, analyze games, and go into the grind. “Everyone thought I was trolling them, but I wasn’t,” the 28-year-old expressed.

Furthermore, shroud shared in the video on Twitter that he wanted to try something new and in Valorant he saw the opportunity to do so. Furthermore, he joined Sentinels because the game style reminded him of his old team in .

How are Sentinels currently doing? Things are less smooth at the team currently after they won several tournaments in 2020/2021. At the VCT Challengers, they were knocked out of the playoffs in the round, and had a group record of 3-2 in Phase 1. They fared even worse in Phase 2, going 0-5. However, Sentinels also had problems:

  • 1 member, Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, dropped a game.
  • Hunter “SicK” Mims was unable to attend multiple matches due to family circumstances and will not return for the 2022 VALORANT Champions Tour: North America Last Chance Qualifier (NA LCQ).
  • Shane “Rawkus” Flaherty has been recalled as coach.
  • Roles on the team were shuffled around after they benched Jared “zombs” Gitlin and let Eric “Kanpeki” Xu play.

Shroud is now expected to step up to replace Hunter “SicK” Mims. Whether the “Shooter God” can turn it around for the team again remains to be seen after being off for 4 years.

Fans show enthusiasm for the most part

What does the community say? On July 8, shroud “just” went to get a coffee in a Twitch stream and was out of sight for a few minutes. When he came back, the streamer was wearing a Sentinels jersey and the chat could hardly contain itself with hype and disbelief.

At the same time, the Sentinels Twitter account posted a small clip and they dubbed shroud a legend (via Twitter). The post has already been retweeted over 60,000 times and liked over 235,000 times. Here’s what Twitter users are saying in the comments section of the post:

  • 100T Asuna is sure: “Everyone else is fighting for 2nd place from now on.”
  • kyedae says, “I’m so excited for these games, LoL.”
  • ZipTie is ready, “I’ve never seen professional valorant, I guess now is the start.”

Many more comments can’t believe it, spamming question marks or rejoicing at the return. Few voices think that shroud can’t do anything about Sentinels situation and he was not professional for too long. However, these voices are strongly drowned out by the fans and to a large extent they are happy about the announcement.

In the past, however, shroud and his team were massacred by a 15-year-old: Valorant: 15-year-old single-handedly slays star streamer shroud and his team.
