Since 2016 Ali “Myth” Kabbani has been streaming on Twitch, but after 6 years this era seems to be coming to an end. Myth decided to switch to YouTube and starts streaming there as early as today, July 12.
Who is Myth? The streamer was a well-known e-sports pro in Fortnite. At the time, he shaped the playstyle in the shooter with his building skills, which many players imitated. Due to his innovative gameplay and skills, Myth acquired the title of “Fortnite God”, although he said himself in 2020 that he was totally bad.
Already in 2018, Kabbani was among the world’s biggest on Twitch. He generated over 4 million followers with his content, securing 3rd place on the ranking of all streamers in the world.
Nowadays, the 23-year-old no longer only plays Fortnite, but also Valorant, Apex Legends or League of Legends. He’s also been running a YouTube channel for a few years now with 4.55 million subscribers – so Myth potentially has a big reach there already.
“This is my decision” – Epic video for the change.
What did the streamer say about it? So far, not much. He promised to talk about it in more detail when it goes live on YouTube. Otherwise, Myth released an action-packed video on Twitter and YouTube that includes the announcement of the change.
Additionally, he mentioned in the video that he was made to produce content. In the process, he held a college invitation in his hands, which he obviously turned down to become a streamer.
What does the community have to say about this? Under the tweet and YouTube video gathered a lot of encouragement and congratulations for Myth. Most of them were happy for the content creator and wished him all the best.
- TnW_Rika writes: “End of an era, on to a new one. Excited to see what you do in the future. Good luck.”
- DepressedRage says, “I didn’t think this would happen to be honest, but I respect the decision and will follow your streams.”
- Yair quips, “Twitch will soon run out of streamers.”
- Not Michael is surprised, “YouTube is taking over. I didn’t think it would happen this fast. So many streamers are switching now. YouTube should definitely optimize its user interface for streams, because Twitch is still better. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see streamers going to YouTube, I wish them all the best.”
Few voices gathered under the tweet, saying that Myth’s move meant no loss for Twitch, they still had enough famous people. Others asked stars like Pokimane to join YouTube soon. Also opined a Twitter user that hardly anyone follows Myth anymore and on YouTube he won’t have any viewers at all.
Is the deal worth it for YouTube?
That remains to be seen. After all, the streamer still had between 2,500 to 4,000 people watching on average over the last few months. However, the numbers are small compared to his wedding in 2018, where up to 37,000 viewers attended his livestreams. After that, the trend definitely went down and settled at the aforementioned averages since September 2021. In addition, the number of followers also grew only very slightly and in some cases he even lost more than he gained.
On YouTube, his view numbers are meanwhile also rather “low”. There, some videos don’t even reach 10,000 clicks and others a bit more than 200,000 – very fluctuating. At his best, some videos have over 1-3 million views or scratch this mark.
Still, his announcement gained decent attention and the video was viewed 1.7 million times, got 4,500 retweets and was liked 110,000 times. Perhaps Myth will now have new opportunities, friendships, and collaborations on YouTube that he was denied on Twitch.
