Because Blizzard doesn’t deliver, players simply revived a realm in WoW Classic themselves. Thousands have taken part – with success.
A few days ago, MeinMMO had already reported that a player in WoW Classic had created the project “The Fresh Crusade”. He wanted to give WoW players a fresh start like at launch and was looking for like-minded people. The response was overwhelming and thousands of players joined to repopulate the world of WoW Classic once again.
What kind of event was this? “The Fresh Crusade” was the players’ attempt to fulfill a dream that Blizzard will probably never have again. Players wanted to relive the experience from the launch of the game and a new realm. To that end, they timed themselves and stormed a previously unmentioned realm last Friday night.
The scenes are likely to stir many a WoW fan, as they were indeed sights last seen at the official launch of Classic. Hundreds of players in the starting areas caused long queues and lines in front of the quest mobs. These can only be “tagged” by a maximum of one group at a time and sometimes have respawn times of several minutes.

Because that’s the way it should be, players line up in order and wait until they get their kill.
How many have participated? It is difficult to find exact numbers on this. What is clear, however, is that a little more than 10,000 interested people were registered on “The Fresh Crusade” discord server. Caszhar, the initiator of the project, explained in an interview with Eurogamer that presumably about 30% of the people on the Discord actually participated. So that would be just under 3,000 players who entered the Dragonfang (EU) realm. The realm was considered “dead” beforehand, there were hardly any active players left.
Now there are almost 20 new guilds. How many of the players will stay on the realm in the long run, of course, cannot be said. But the chances are good that many will make new friends here, which will then last and lead to long playing time.
There were also trolls who wanted to disturb: Because the project caused such a stir in the run-up, there were also a few trolls who wanted to disturb on purpose. Some of them tried to guess the right realm in advance to “pre-level” and kill the newcomers directly by PvP. Others tried to defeat the valuable quest mobs again and again, even though they didn’t need them anymore – simply so that other players couldn’t complete their quests.
But such trolls and naysayers probably exist on every realm.
Is it still possible to participate? Sure. If you want, you can start a little delayed on Dragonfang. The other players are only 3 days ahead of us, so it’s still easy to catch up in Classic. If you put in a little effort, you’ll soon catch up with the others and can then experience dungeons again or quest in groups instead of simply letting “boosters” pull you up to level 60.
Did you participate in the event? Are you going to check out the realm after the fact? Or would you not have the nerve to start over in Classic?
