The capabilities of Thunderbird
Thunderbird is a defender with three points in speed and one point in defense. Accordingly, she is fast, but can withstand relatively little. But she doesn’t have to, because the North American native of the Nakoda Nation has a handy gadget up her sleeve.
The Kona Station: This is a placeable healing station that heals players in the immediate vicinity for 30 health – even overhealing is possible. For each heal, the station consumes one orb, which must then recharge over 35 seconds. Permanent healing is therefore not possible. However, players who have been knocked down can stand up again with the help of such a healing ball.
Basically, Thunderbird thus takes on a similar role to Doc, but could even displace him. The Rainbow expert and Youtuber Jericho Five describes Thunderbirds says: “So can [die Kona Station] More than Doc and … even better.”

Armament: In addition, from a defender’s point of view, Thunderbird has access to powerful weapons. The Spear .308 assault rifle is used, which is otherwise only carried by the attacker Finka. According to the expert BikiniBodhi, the weapon is roughly equivalent to the damage of Hunter’s assault rifle. While Thunderbird is only allowed to use 1x scopes, the defender should still be able to easily hold long gears against attackers due to the range and damage of assault rifles.
As an alternative, Thunderbird can fall back on Caveira’s Spas-15 shotgun. Combined with her high speed, both weapons represent a strong aura armor that makes the new defender an unpleasant opponent. In addition, she may carry impact grenades or a nitro cell.
The operator’s equipment is pretty strong all around, which Youtuber BikiniBodhi also acknowledges with a somewhat incredulous, “… what the heck?!” You can see Thunderbird’s abilities in action in Jericho Five’s video:

Thunderbird takes influence on both sides
Besides its obvious strengths in terms of weaponry, it is the Kona Station that should make Thunderbird a much-played (or often locked) operator in the future. So far, on the defender side, only Doc could heal other players with his healing pistol – though its use was severely limited.
Thunderbird’s healing stations are less mobile, but much more powerful if well placed. A single shot, explosion, or Twitch’s shock drone can easily destroy the station. Thatcher’s EMP grenade, on the other hand, only disables them temporarily.
In total, Thunderbird has three Kona Stations, which have decent healing power and infinite “ammo”. In the following clip from the English-speaking colleagues of PC Gamer, two of the stations are so close to each other that the player can heal himself from 5 health points to 65 – an immense advantage and not previously possible in this way:

Careful placement: However, this advantage can also become a disadvantage at the same time, because Kona Station does not distinguish between friend and foe. Whoever approaches it automatically receives healing, if currently available.
This is exactly where Thunderbird can have a decisive impact on the outcome of a match. For example, if an attacker is only down and not yet eliminated while the last defender destroys the defuser, the attacker can revive himself at the station and still win the round. What about Doc? Thunderbird’s abilities and weapon selection, some players on Reddit already agree, make her a pretty powerful operator on the test server and a great competition for Doc, the other healing defender. In terms of speed, gadgets and weapons, Thunderbird is currently clearly superior to the – Season 1 operator on paper.
“Thunderbird just outclassed Doc in every way,” judges Reddit user MrTopSecret, fearing for the operator balance. However, the last word regarding the new heroine has not been said yet.
At this point, Thunderbird is only playable on the Rainbow Six Siege test server. Until the release of Operation North Star, which is scheduled for mid-June, the development team can still make changes.
