FIFA 21 brought us twelve new icons for Ultimate Team . We’re already looking at FIFA 22 and telling you which ten new icons we want – EA can then choose the other two. We’re just too cute.
Ok, first things first. So icons are legends that are no longer actively playing and appear as special cards in the game. You probably already know that, just like you expect new iconic stars for the upcoming FIFA 22 .
These are all icons in FIFA 21
Don’t worry, we’re not listing all 100 icons that are already in the game here. But you can see them here again at a glance.
So now to the new icons in FIFA 22 . We have put together ten players for you, which we have selected from community suggestions and our own wishes.
These could be new icons in FIFA 22
1st goalkeeper: Iker Casillas
The Spaniard didn’t end his career until 2020, but we’re just too keen on the 2010 world champion. From 1999 to 2015 he kept the Real Madrid goal clean and was Spanish champion five times. He also won three Champions League titles with the royal team.
Even after his (somewhat inglorious) departure from Spain, he proved his class at FC Porto and also became champion in Portugal.
2. Goalkeeper: Oliver Kahn
We’ve been waiting forever for the comeback of “Titan”. In 2008, the Bayern legend stopped playing in goal. How nice would he look as a youngster (then still with Karlsruher SC ) with a long mullet in FIFA.
Unfortunately, Oliver Kahn will probably not become a FIFA icon , since EA was in a legal dispute with the keeper… or is… if you want to know more, you can watch a video about it .
3rd defense: Lucio
The 2002 world champion was in the Bundesliga for Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Bayern Munich . In Italy he played for Inter Milan and Juventus Turin . He only officially ended his career in 2020 at the age of 42.
Who still remembers the typical runs that went from their own to the opponent’s penalty area? Wonderful, we want him as a central defender with outstanding physique and blatant dribbling values.
4th defense: Franz Beckenbauer
Why is Beckenbauer not yet a FIFA icon? I have no idea, actually nothing speaks against it. After leading Bayern to fame and glory in Germany and Europe, he moved to the USA and raked in some serious cash at New York Cosmos . But already in 1980! Seems completely normal now, doesn’t it Schweini?
But Beckenbauer was one of the first figureheads of football in America. Even if his Libero position no longer exists today, the Kaiser simply has to be playable in FIFA.
5th midfield: Wesley Sneijder
The Dutch national team’s record player played for Ajax Amsterdam , Real Madrid , Inter Milan , Galatasaray Istanbul and OGC Nice before ending his career in Qatar.
Five stars weak foot (whichever his weaker foot may have been) are a must! As one of the last classic real tens – greetings go to Kaká and Ronaldinho, for example – in modern football, it simply has to be in the game.
6. Mittelfeld: Francesco Totti
Did someone just mention a feature that has no place in football today? Then says: Ciao, Francesco. Totti remained loyal to AS Roma his entire career and turned down lucrative offers from Spain and England for years.
He played 785 competitive games for his heart club. He was only able to celebrate one championship. In 2006 he became world champion with Italy, in 2017 it was over for Totti.
7th midfield: Zico
It is surprising that one of the most popular Brazilians is not in the game yet. In the 70s and 80s, the “white Pelé” scored a whopping 66 times in 88 international matches and always wore the number 10 at club and Seleção.
To this day, he is still considered one of the best free-kick takers ever to kick a ball on this planet. He himself once said: “A beautiful free kick is like a beautiful picture by a great painter.” We say: Isso .
8th Attack: Alfredo Di Stefano
Together with the icon Ferenc Puskás, who was added in 2021, the Argentine formed what is arguably the most dangerous attacking duo in the world. In 282 games for Real Madrid he scored 216 goals, while Puskás has 155 goals in 179 games.
In 2014, the honorary president of the Royal died of a heart attack. He belonged to the then real life Ultimate Team Reals, which won the European Cup five times in a row. He was voted Europe’s Footballer of the Year twice with the Ballon d’Or.
9. Wayne Rooney
For Rooney, a return as an icon may even come too soon, as the record goalscorer for the English national team (53 goals) only ended his career in January 2021. He ended that at Derby County , first as player-coach, now as head coach of the Rams.
Trained at Everton , he became a club legend at Manchester United . There, too, he is still the record goalscorer (253 goals in 559 games), with the Red Devils he was English champion five times between 2007 and 2013 and won the Champions League.
10. Adriano
The striker with a 99 degree was already legendary in earlier FIFA parts. In Serie A he scored 77 goals in 180 games for AC Fiorentina , Inter Milan , AC Parma and AS Roma . His career really wasn’t an example of a model professional, his story is just tragic.
His father died in 2006, he lost interest in football and was more in the public eye because of his excessive private life. However, his talent is undisputed to this day and one wonders what could have become of the goalgetter. Don’t overdo it with alcohol and drugs!
So, those were our ten icons that we want in FIFA 22 . Do you have any other suggestions? Share them with us on Twitter or Facebook .
By the way, there are alreadyLeaks announcing Lucio , Casillas and Sneijder . FIFA Online 4 has been available since 2018as a FIFA offshoot for the Asian market. The first indications of the three legends already appeared there – we would be happy.
FIFA 22 – FUTs
What could be cooler than just relaxed gaming and doing some sofa sports on the side? In FIFA 22, the player is on the move fast, but without getting sore muscles. With the Ultimate Team Event cards, the collecting instinct is now also satisfied. However, the FUT Heroes keep creeping into my mind, so here are the best Ultimate Team Event cards that are definitely worth adding to your collection.
Heroes cards selected by EA for top qualities
Admittedly, the FUT heroes will cost quite a bit of coin, but it turns out that EA has once again brought some top-class players into the game when it comes to selection. As a collector and hunter, it’s an added attraction for FIFA gamers to now include their own favorite heroes in the portfolio and benefit from their individual skills. Both in the game and in team building, the FUTs will revolutionize the game once again.
EA SPORTS FC: FIFA GAME SERIES TO BE CONTINUED UNDER NEW NAME
Of course, the soccer simulation game series will not be discontinued completely. After FIFA 23, EA will relaunch the game under the name EA Sports FC and market it independently. Old FIFA hares should now become quite an ear, after all, the EA Sports Football Club used to be a part of the actual game for years. A lot of playing was rewarded, points could be collected and items, boosts or balls for the individual game modes could be unlocked.
In this context, there could also be a complete revolution of the classic game. There is a heated discussion in the FIFA community about whether the game, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2023, will be free-to-play. This option is said to be on the table for the game makers from EA, because: It seems that EA earns most of its money with the purchases of FIFA Points in the game mode Ultimate Team and not with the sale of the game itself.
