Expansion must revise the bonus events

Are you excited about the upcoming Arena Skirmish bonus in WoW: Shadowlands this week? Have you reactivated your subscription especially for this event and are you about to sweep through the arena with several characters? Or are you trying to get the most out of the second bonus event this week and reminiscing on the Ashran? Are you as excited for the upcoming week with the Full House PvP bonus event?

No? Then you’re like me and probably 99% of the rest of the players. And if you had to think for a moment about what to do in WoW (buy now ) Shadowlands is actually meant by “bonus event”, you further reinforce our call for a major overhaul for this feature.

Bonus events have been with us since Warlords of Draenor and have been expanded every now and then over time. Back then, the bonus weeks for pet fights, battlegrounds, and PvP skirmishes were still somewhat popular. However, players were usually only euphoric about these weekly events during the Apexis Crystals Bonus Week.

Meanwhile, bonus events like Bonus Event: World Quests, Bonus Event: Pet Battles, or Bonus Event: Arena Skirmishes have degenerated into non-events. If you don’t happen to look at the calendar or get the quest rubbed in your face before the Great Treasury, you won’t even notice that there’s a special event coming up this week.

The exceptions so far have been the PvP brawl K.I.nderspiel, because you could easily increase your fame levels through it in Shadowlands, and the bonus events like Shadowlands dungeons or time-travel events. However, the latter were only interesting if their weekly reward rewarded the player with an item at the current item level. In my opinion, reworking the events should be a top priority in one of the upcoming expansions.

What could meaningful bonus events look like?

To make bonus events palatable to the player, the reward simply has to be right. Bonus Event: Dungeons of Shadowlands should drop extra loot not only at the end of a normal Mythic dungeon, but also in Mythic-Plus. Timewalk events should not necessarily drop current raid level gear, but at least current Mythic dungeon level. Battleground events should not only grant a little more honor, but also provide some bonus conquest points.

PvP brawls should either always be active and provide interesting PvP cosmetics or be a good opportunity to quickly increase your honor level. Victories in all PvP brawls should be a meta-achievement with title or mount. Rewards must be made interesting enough for players to play the weekly event want and look forward to certain events.

The new interface options of WoW: Dragonflight replace most of the addons in the game. Take a look at what all you can change in edit mode.

Imagine if we replaced snoozy bonus events like “Bonus Event:World Quests” with “Bonus Event: Valor Points”, over which dungeons grant triple the amount of Valor Points. What do you guys think would be going on in Dungeons this week? How many players would suddenly wake up from hibernation …

Too much FOMO?

No one would want to miss out on a bravery points week in particular. But what if you don’t have time in a week and miss out on great bonus events? Admittedly, this sounds like a FOMO tactic (Fear of missing out), which we ourselves like to demonize. If you miss a certain event for a great item or a lot of bravery points, you feel disadvantaged.

The thing is, however, if every week, every event is good, you can no longer talk about FOMO. Every WoW ID a cool little event, hach would that be nice. I know that sounds crazy. But that’s what bonus events should be in my opinion and haven’t been in WoW for a long time. Do you guys agree with that? What bonus events would you like to see in the future?
