When the Battle Guild was introduced with Patch 5.1 during WoW: Mists of Pandaria, countless players were hot for the few invites. Vast amounts of gold changed hands for the invitations, just so you could take on dangerous opponents in the depths of the Deep Railway or the mud of Orgrimmar. The more of them you defeated, the higher you rose in rank and the harder the battles became. Of course, some rewards also awaited the brave fighters.
In the following expansions the fighting guild was closed, revised and reopened with new opponents. This is actually how it was planned for the current expansion WoW (buy now ): Shadowlands Introduced. With the pre-patch, the Battle Guild closed its doors at the end of 2020. Officially, the doorman tells us, because of repair work and the preparation of the next, big thing.

Falling victim to the scissors?
This, next big thing, however, quite obviously never came. Because during the entire Shadowlands expansion, the Battle Guild remained closed. No new opponent, no new quest, no nothing. Obviously, any kind of innovations fell victim to the scissors.
This would be understandable in the case of Shadowlands. An expansion that lacks a complete patch and has to bridge the time until the following expansion with an experimental – Season – there are truly more important things than a new round in the battle guild.
What’s next in Dragonflight?
We’ve been waiting for the next big thing since BfA.

Probably every other WoW player understands that the Battle Guild did not enjoy a high priority with the developers during Shadowlands. But now the expansion is coming to an end and Dragonflight is waiting in the wings. It would at least be nice to hear something from the developers about whether and how the Battle Guild will continue.
After all, a new expansion with a new setting is perfect for this. There are a lot of dangerous creatures waiting on the Dragon Isles, which would be perfect for arena combat. Maybe that’s what is meant by the “big thing”: a real dragon! Or at least a small Welpling or a Dracthyr.
This race is new to Stormwind and Orgrimmar and not very welcome anyway, as the introductory campaign of the Dracthyr shows. So why not send a few of their best fighters into the arena to entertain the audience and improve your own reputation?
Solo content is important!
WoW is of course an MMO and as such designed for group play, nothing will change. But the past has shown that solo content is also important, even if it has no relevance to the story. Things like the Mage Tower or the Trial by Fire were able to excite many players. That usually didn’t last long, but the development effort is also kept within limits.
With the battle guild, the developers might not necessarily be able to bring this factor to the fore, but they could very well show that they care about these players on solo paths. Especially since they should also have fun with it. Because where, if not in the battle guild, can you let your imagination run wild and create some really wacky bosses?
