It was clear to many at the time that this was the start of a Crypto ARG, or alternate reality game. The trouble is, nobody quite knew how far the creator of this ARG would take it. One month and two days later, multiple codes have been cracked, messages have been decrypted, and dozens, or maybe hundreds of combined hours have gone into trying to solve it.
