Although the PlayStation 5 is still relatively young, there are already a large number of multiplayer titles that you can play. The best PS5 multiplayer games allow you to have fun with your friends no matter where they are in the world, whether online or in local multiplayer.
So you don’t have to worry about which multiplayer games to play, we’ve compiled a list of the best PS5 multiplayer games for you.
1. call of duty: warzone
Being called a Fortnite killer and actually succeeding as such are two completely different things. Many titles bore the name of the former, but only Warzone actually became the latter.
While Fortnite is still very successful, Warzone has been a real alternative to the game, at times rivaling Fortnite’s popularity on streaming platforms and offering streamers a Battle Royale they could play and enjoy away from the competition that is Fortnite.
Warzone offers players a more mature Battle Royale experience. It’s the Call of Duty gameplay we all know and love, wrapped up in a huge map full of vehicles, buildings, and objectives.
There’s not much we can tell you about Warzone that you don’t already know, and there’s a reason for that. The PlayStation 5 may still be relatively new, but Warzone will remain one of the best multiplayer games on the platform for quite some time.
2. Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) is an open-world action video game. The game’s story focuses on the city of Los Santos, which is modeled after the design of Los Angeles. Here we have to control 3 characters, Michael, Trevor and Franklin, who are criminals and find themselves in complicated situations due to their previous robberies. As in the previous parts, in Grand Theft Auto V players can carry out different activities without going directly to the main missions. They can earn money to buy new vehicles, weapons and clothes. Also, in multiplayer mode they can control their own character to complete online missions with other players.
The overwhelming success of this part forced Rockstar to release a multiplayer version called GTA Online. Here you’ll be able to team up with other players from all over the world and do missions, activities or anything else that the wide open world allows you to do. To this day, it is one of the most played titles and is constantly updated with new contents.
3rd Fortnite
You either hate Fortnite or you love it. Regardless of where you stand, Fortnite’s place in pop culture is undeniable. As both a shooter and a multiplayer game, Fortnite is also one of the best games for the PS5.
Epic Games’ Battle Royale has a unique and inimitable way of building and shooting your way to victory. It’s also become more than just a Battle Royale title. It has become a complete gaming experience that allows players to build games in Fortnite using the game mechanics as a foundation.
As Fortnite continues to evolve, so will gaming on the PS5. Already, PS5 owners can enjoy Fortnite with better textures, faster loading screens, and up to 4K and 120 frames per second resolution.
4TH FIFA 22
For soccer fans, FIFA 22 is the ultimate PS5 multiplayer game. The game includes more than 17,000 players in over 700 teams and over 90 stadiums from over 30 leagues. The most legendary competitions are the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, the new UEFA Europa Conference League, CONMEBOL Libertadores, CONMEBOL Sudamericana, Ligue 1, Premier League, Bundesliga and LaLiga Santander.
FIFA 22 uses HyperMotion technology. This integrates data from collective motion capture and has scalable intelligence that makes every game in FIFA 22 more dynamic. Thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5, gameplay is more realistic, responsive and fluid than ever before.
5. Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter: World is an action game from Capcom with a touch of RPG elements. In this game we find ourselves in a huge new world where we once again have to fight against large monsters. The game can be played alone or in co-op mode with up to three players. During the game we have to accept quests in which we are asked to hunt a monster. When we complete a mission, we get materials with which we can create better weapons and armor, which are important to defeat powerful monsters.
Monster Hunter: World takes place in a prehistoric world inhabited by large and dangerous creatures. It has a very solid development system that lets the player level up and learn new abilities to hunt these monsters. The game is one of the best multiplayer games for the PS5, since it lets you share the experience in co-op mode with up to 3 players.
6th Rocket League
Rocket League is the best underdog story since Rocky. Dead By Daylight may be among the most successful indie games of all time, but Rocket League is damn close to taking that crown for itself.
The game was developed and released in July 2015 by a small American game studio called Psyonix. The addictive casual multiplayer gameplay and the fact that the title was played by millions of players around the world made Rocket League an overnight sensation, which continues today thanks to the acquisition of Psyonix by Epic Games.
Rocket League is free-to-play on PS5 and has both a solid casual and thriving competitive fan base. Even if you don’t have ambitions to become an e-sportsman yourself, it can’t hurt to save the game to your hard drive when you and your friends are bored.
7. destiny 2
Destiny 2 is the closest thing to the ideal first-person shooter MMO, and each successive update brings new game content and improvements. With its excellent shooter mechanics and expansive and content-rich planetary worlds, Destiny 2 is a great game to play solo and gets even better when you play it online with friends or strangers.
In any case, you can download the PS5 version for free and try it out. Worst case scenario, you get hooked and buy the rest of the expansions because you fall in love with Destiny 2’s 4K graphics and 120 frames-per-second gameplay.
8 Overwatch
Overwatch has been one of the most important shooters of the moment since it was released by Activision Blizzard in 2016. The great work of Jeff Kaplan and his team led the title to win the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards Gala.
Blizzard has released a surprisingly colorful shooter that has many merits. The games in Overwatch are short and there are a number of objectives to complete. This makes it accessible to all PS5 users for quick games with friends. Each player can control a character and synergize with their unique abilities.
9. it takes two
It Takes Two is a platform game designed for co-op play. Overcome all sorts of challenges with a friend and take control of Cody and May, two characters with unique abilities. As you overcome the trials, you’ll be drawn into an emotional story in which the objective is to overcome difficulties to advance.
If you are looking for an emotional narrative adventure, It Takes Two has implemented the co-op experience in a unique way. The bond between the two protagonists is real and players will always feel accompanied in this platform game. It also offers very original mechanisms to solve the puzzles, as well as mini-games that players can play within the game.
10 Warframe
An almost 10 year old game that came out before the PlayStation 4 has been ported to the PS5. It’s extremely rare, if not unusual, for a game to be ported across two generations of hardware – that really says it all about the quality of Warframe.
It’s a multiplayer third-person shooter that combines open-world design with procedurally generated missions to create gameplay that stays entertaining longer than many other games similar to Warframe.
The game’s age also means that it has already seen a number of releases, revisions and updates, with more to come. If you get into Warframe for PS5 now, you’ll get nine years’ worth of gameplay all at once.
11 Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is an excellent, family-friendly platform game with non-violent combat and plenty of challenges for both kids and adults to overcome. The LittleBigPlanet spin-off is also well playable in single-player mode, but it shines best in multiplayer.
Some of A Big Adventure’s best levels can even be played with just two or more players. Besides, the game is simply more fun with two (or three, because the game supports four-player co-op mode).
At the same time, you and your friends can also compete against each other to see who can collect the most objects in each level.
12th Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight is a horror game for up to 5 players, where one player takes the role of a killer and the other four players try to escape him. The survivors have to escape from the area in any way they can. Their task is to work together to increase their chances of getting out alive. All players have their own progression system and a large number of unlockable features. Each level of the game is randomly generated, which makes strategic planning difficult.
13 Dirt 5
Dirt 5 is shaping up to be its best yet on the PS5, as the decision to forgo a traditional racing sim feel in favor of an arcade racer comes into its own thanks to DualSense support.
Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers work seamlessly together to let you feel every bump and scrape for the ultimate driving experience. Plus, the handling, performance, graphics, and sound of Dirt 5 feel so different on PS5 that you might as well be playing Dirt 6 at this point.
As a multiplayer title, Dirt 5 offers several fun game modes that you can play with friends in both local co-op and online. In addition, Dirt 5 supports cross-gen and cross-platform matchmaking.
14 Rainbow Six Siege
Since its release in 2015, Rainbow Six Siege has become a great eSports title that is a real alternative to giants like CS:GO and DOTA.
While played on PC, it offers console players the chance to experience the slow-paced, tactical FPS gameplay that CS:GO has become so famous for.
Ten players take part in a game of Siege – 5 vs. 5. There is a team of attackers and a team of defenders, both fighting for two bombs on the map, but also for a hostage.
Rainbow differs from the formula in its hero-based gameplay. Each player chooses a soldier with unique weapons, stats, and abilities. This adds depth to R6S, turning it from a fun novelty to one of the most advanced tactical shooters of all time.
If Call of Duty is starting to lose its appeal, Rainbow Six Siege is the perfect candidate to replace it on your shelf.
15. NBA 2K22
The next-gen version of NBA 2K22 is a real slam dunk for PS5 owners. It’s the perfect purchase for NBA fans who haven’t bought an NBA 2K game in a while, and it’s also a worthwhile upgrade for those who buy a new version every year as soon as it comes out.
In terms of gameplay, there’s no difference between the last-gen and next-gen versions. The career mode is still a delight and the combination of MyGM and MyLeague in MyNBA mode was a brilliant move. However, what makes NBA 2K22 so great is the huge leap in visual fidelity compared to the last-gen version.
To say that an NBA 2K game has never looked as good as NBA 2K22 on the PS5 is no exaggeration. Although the online experience is still riddled with microtransactions, that won’t stop you from playing a game or two with friends.
16. unravel 2
Unravel 2 is a puzzle platform game. Unlike the first game, here there are two yarnys, made of red and blue threads, so it can be played with another person in local co-op mode. The objective of the game is to get through the levels by solving puzzles or avoiding enemies that appear along the way. This beautiful game tells the story of a pair of brothers through the adventures of the Yarnys, in which they can use their yarns to climb obstacles and other mechanisms.
Although it’s not a particularly long adventure, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to recommend Unravel 2. The game is played in local multiplayer mode and players must work together to master the levels. It’s a game that can convey emotions without saying a single word.
17. PUBG
Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG, is the first battle royale game. Fight in a large area, while the storm is gathering around you, to achieve the coveted title of “Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner” – even if it’s not so easy to get a few kills. You’ll have to be the last player left after the game, and duos and squads are ideal to call on your friends’ support. It’s a more realistic approach to this popular competitive genre if you team up with your friends and tackle the ever-growing number of maps and modes.
18th Worms Rumble
It’s safe to assume that almost every gamer over the age of 16 has played a Worms game at some point in their life. Thanks to its quirky and easy-to-understand turn-based PvP gameplay, it has long been a popular party game – a formula that has given the series a relatively good reputation for over 25 years.
Worms Rumble is more of a spin-off than a main game in the series. This is mainly because it abandons the familiar turn-based combat in favor of an RTA system.
As you can imagine, this leads to very chaotic gameplay that spans multiple game modes and maps. There are a number of typical Worms weapons and tools that you can use, in a way that feels both different and remarkably similar to what you’re used to.
Worms Rumble isn’t the kind of game you’ll sink 40 hours into over the course of a week, but it’s a great title to have on your hard drive to play with your friends, even if only online multiplayer is supported at the moment, so no couch co-op. But there is cross-play, so it’s not all bad.
19 Overcooked: All You Can Eat
Emotions can boil up pretty quickly in Overcooked. Everyone has something to do and somehow everyone is almost always at least one step behind. It’s no easy task to keep hungry customers full. Still, you do it with gusto. That’s the gameplay that makes the Overcooked games so exhausting and so addictive.
Overcooked: All You Can Eat makes both titles look prettier and packs them full of content. In addition to the 4K look, the games now include all post-launch expansions and other new content. The next-gen version also updates the game’s accessibility and allows for cross-platform play. Co-op play is also now more chaotic than ever, as you can play with three other players locally and/or online.
20th Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
Like Worms, Mortal Kombat is a prestigious series that dates back to the early 90s.
Despite being the eleventh installment in the series, MK11 managed to impress fans and critics alike when it launched in 2019. It was praised for the quality of the story mode, which was a highlight of the last three Mortal Kombat games, as well as the immensely improved online experience and fine-tuned gameplay.
However, the game was also criticized for NetherRealm doubling down on the microtransactions that had already appeared in Mortal Kombat X.
If you’re willing to overlook the content hidden behind a paywall, MK11 is one of those titles that you’ll either pick up and play once in a while or dedicate hundreds of hours to, no matter what system you play it on.
21 Among Us
Among Us is a game that pits friends against each other and tests their faith and trust. Players take on the roles of astronauts in colorful spacesuits on a spaceship. The crew members try to find out which of them is a malicious impostor.
All players have different tasks, but only the impostors actively sabotage the crew. The crew members must identify possible impostors and decide to kill them before more crew members are killed.
It’s a foreboding, unsettling game that thrives on tension and suspense. The game is also very popular on Twitch, since the situation can be very humorous if you don’t manage to find and eliminate the “suspicious” players.
22nd Case Guys
Most battle royale games are about taking out other players and being the last to survive. In Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, it’s about transforming into a monstrous jelly bean and bouncing through obstacle courses to cross the finish line first. This won’t be easy, though. You’ll compete against around 60 other players to complete mini-games in which you’ll have to jump, climb and dive to reach the finish line.
Although the game is not violent, it can be so exhausting that you might feel that way if you don’t qualify for the next round. If you make it to the end, you’ll receive Crowns, the game’s premium money. However, be careful, because the game is anything but easy, and it’s not quite as cute as the vibrant graphics might suggest.
23rd Genshin Impact
The free-to-play role-playing game takes place in an open environment with stunning graphics. One element that makes Genshin Impact stand out is the possibility of playing with other players on PS5, Android, iOS and PC. Named the best iPhone game of the year, Genshin Impact has a lot to offer that you shouldn’t miss.
However, Genshin Impact is not a normal multiplayer game. To gain access to the multiplayer mode, you must first play and work your way up to adventure rank 16. Once you reach this level, you can play the game with up to three other players.
24 No Man’s Sky
The PS5 version of No Man’s Sky has been implemented great. There are more assets spread across the planets to create a denser and more realistic environment. The ability to build larger bases, cross-play, transferable saves, 4K graphics at 60 frames per second, and a 32-player multiplayer mode round out the overall package.
No Man’s Sky has never been more alive, due in large part to the game’s multiplayer mode. To put it bluntly, there’s currently nothing quite like No Man’s Sky. Playing on one of the 18 trillion planets, all randomly created, is an exhilarating experience whether you’re playing alone or with friends. If you have a few friends to help you avoid the dangerous weather on many planets, you’ll probably have more fun. All PS4 game owners will receive a free PS5 upgrade.
25 Back 4 Blood
Back 4 Blood from Turtle Rock Studios is the best alternative to Left 4 Dead 2. As in any Left 4 Dead game, you’ll have to contend with zombie swarms, but you’ll also encounter funny characters and the gunfights are amusing. In Back 4 Blood’s card system you’ll be able to create decks that give your character certain abilities, such as increasing health. To really enjoy this game, you’ll have to play it with a group of people, especially in the more challenging levels. It’s a really fulfilling experience to have your colleagues’ backs, while you work together to defeat terrifying opponents.
26. F1 2022
When it comes to the most famous racing series in the world, you’ll have to prove your driving skills in F1 2022. Compete against a friend in split-screen mode on one of the world’s most famous racetracks, or compete online in ranked races, leagues and weekly events. Depending on where you are online, you can even meet some of the world’s best sim racers.
27 Splitgate
What’s not to love about gunfights, portals and science fiction? Many have compared Splitgate to a cross between Halo and Portal. First-person shooter combat mixes with player-controlled portals that let you navigate the game map.
Since its release in 2019, users have flocked to compete in more than 15 competitive game modes on over 20 different maps. What’s more, the game is free-to-play and cross-platform, so you can play with your friends on other consoles and PC, and there’s even a split-gate ranked mode for those looking for a real challenge.
28 Demon’s Souls
Dark Souls doesn’t necessarily come to mind when it comes to the best multiplayer games. But online multiplayer is part of the game’s appeal. Demon’s Souls is no exception. The PS5-exclusive title is most fun when you play online with and against other people, defending yourself against enemy attackers.
In online play, Demon’s Souls is a completely different game. You’ll have to watch out for other players. At the same time, it’s always a good idea to ask for help, especially when you’re up against some of the most difficult bosses in the game.
Don’t forget, though, that Demon’s Souls knows how much easier some bosses become with extra help. That’s why the game has been balanced so that the bosses are harder to defeat when you have other real players with you.
29 Borderlands 3
The third installment in the Borderlands series might be the best yet – especially since it’s been optimized for the PS5. It looks and plays better now than ever before. If it wasn’t one of our favorite co-op games before, it certainly is now.
In Borderlands 3, you take on the role of one of several Chamber Hunters. Each of them has their own abilities and skills, and must slaughter their way through a variety of weird and wonderful creatures. For the first time in the series, Borderlands 3 also includes multiple planets, so there are more environments and enemy types than ever before.
Although it’s fun to play alone, Borderlands 3 is really fun when you have a friend by your side. Split-screen lets you take on the dangers of the world together, fight over loot, and pick off more enemies.
30th Destruction AllStars
Destruction AllStars is a mixture of Rocket League, Twisted Metal and Fortnite. We couldn’t come up with such a crazy idea even if we tried.
But the team at Lucid Games did, and out came a flop that had all the potential in the world, only to be dragged through the mud for invasive microtransactions, repetitive gameplay, and a distinct lack of content.
Despite this, the core of the game and the gameplay mechanics were almost universally praised, saving a title that would have otherwise simply been forgotten. If you can grab Destruction AllStars on sale, you should go for it. It’s a chaotically designed cacophony of carnage that will keep you and your buddies coming back regularly.
