Deutsche Telekom is also sending a clear signal for diversity in the eSports scene at Digital X. At this year’s Equal eSports Festival @Digital X together with SK Gaming and the esports player foundation, it is bringing the topic of equalesports to the big stage. After the successful premiere in Berlin in 2021, the event is coming to Cologne this year. Here, it will transform Hohenzollernring 35 into an eSports hotspot for two days. On September 13 and 14, gaming and eSports enthusiasts can experience a new generation of eSports in show matches, workshops and panel talks with experts. As last year, attendance is free of charge. Tickets are available after prior registration online at www.equal-esports.com or on site.
Antje Hundhausen, Vice President Brand Experience and initiator of the Equal eSports Initiative, is looking forward to a strong program and an enthusiastic audience: “Together with SK Gaming and the esports player foundation, we want to create a safe space in the scene for the female and non-binary gaming community. Our annual Equal eSports Festival is one such place where everyone can be part of it. Here, young people can exchange ideas, play with and against each other, and immerse themselves in a fantastic overall experience. All gaming enthusiasts as well as curious parents, teachers and Digital-X visitors are cordially invited to join us and set a sign for more diversity in the scene.”
Education and Entertainment: Program Highlights
In the mornings, students, teachers and parents will learn in presentations and workshops, for example, how eSports and gaming can be used for digital education, what the reasons for age ratings are and how to deal with hate speech on the Internet. They can also take on playful challenges on the augmented reality climbing wall or in the flight simulator.
In the afternoon, streamers xFibii, Youtuber Lukas Brawl Stars, eSports athlete Vadeal and eSports TV presenter Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere will be among the headliners. There will be influencer competitions and female fan team tournaments. Visitors can learn more about art and gaming, equal rights in the workplace, or life as a gamer and creator.
The Equal eSports Council (https://www.equal-esports.com/en/supporter) talks about women, role models and young talents in the eSports industry. Also on the program: Autograph sessions and open Q&A sessions with influencers*, the Outfit of the Day award, and workshops covering various facets of eSports from fitness, to nutrition, to mental health.
Another highlight are the new talents of the esports player foundation. This year, a total of over 300 ambitious female and non-binary players applied for the support program, with which Telekom and the esports player foundation want to firmly establish gamers in the scene. Following a selection camp, around 18 talented players in League of Legends and Brawl Stars were accepted into the one-year support program. The final selection will be officially presented at the festival. The first boot camp will then follow in November in Ampflwang, Austria.
Also in Cologne will be the players from the SK Gaming project Avarosa. The eSports organization will present its newly founded “Brawl Stars Team”. And takes part in show matches with the current “League of Legends Team”.
