At the start of the new – Season in League of Legends, first champions are in the spotlight. These are the picks the pros have favored so far in the 2022 LEC Spring Split.
The decisions of the pros often rub off on casuals as well. Accordingly, we venture a first look at the pro meta of the League of Legends European Championship (LEC). 15 matches were contested last weekend to kick off Spring Split 2022, with some champions finding themselves very frequently on the picks and bans list.

The queen among the current scary champions is Caitlyn. In 14 out of 15 cases, the Sheriff of Piltover showed up and was banned every time. Twisted Fate fared similarly, being kept out of the Summoner’s Rift 13 times. He was used in two games, winning one. The most frequently banned trio is completed by Lee Sin. His use was prevented in twelve games. Twice, however, he did enter the chasm – with two victories.

The most played champion to start the LEC is Jhin on the bot lane. In ten matches the AD-Carrys relied on the Marksman. Four wins to six losses were the result, with German Fnatic pro Elias “Upset” Lipp succeeding twice with the attacking champion. Meanwhile, Jinx’s record looks positive. The Arcane star emerged victorious five times from nine matches.
Continuing to be popular is Thresh ~ thanks in part to his hook, which can quickly serve up a vulnerable opponent for his team. The support champion came out six times – that is, every time he was not banned. His win rate is exactly 50%, with support stars Norman “Kaiser” Kaiser and Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev, among others, leading the Chain Guard to success.
Rakan, meanwhile, fared best at the support position: In six matches jumped out four victories. Two of them were won by Rogue pro Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus. LeBlanc had similar success in the center, where her high damage against single targets and mobility continue to make her a force to be reckoned with. Six appearances were made with the deceiver in the mid-lane, four of which were wins.
In the Jungle, Xin Zhao has dominated so far due to his dangerous ganks and useful ultimate. Six out of nine matches were won by teams using Demacia’s seneschal. On the other hand, the pros experienced a bad start with Viego. Despite the fact that the overthrown king was selected seven times for the Jungle, six matches of them were lost. Twice Nikolay “Zanzarah” Akatov and Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek ended up on the losing end with him.
On the top lane, the field was mixed. But once again Renekton had the most presence. Four matches with two wins and two losses were recorded, while the Butcher of Sand was banned eight times. Thus, many old acquaintances are represented in the LoL meta, even if some of the team tactics may change. The next two game weekends, which will take place on Friday and Saturday evenings, will give more impressions about the current meta in the highest European game class.
