Mutalisk
The Mutalisk has evolved little from its original form, the roaming Mantis Screecher in the secluded Dinares Sector. In their original form, these creatures could fly both in the atmosphere and in space – but exactly how they managed to do so is unclear. Apparently they were even able to move from one star system to the next, presumably in some kind of larval form.
Visual evidence of the amazing ability to move in interstellar space are the giant nests of the mantis screechers, which are a common sight on the inanimate worlds of many star systems. But today most of these nests are empty. They were abandoned when this highly successful and adaptable species was infested by the Zerg and evolved into Mutalisks.
Mutalisks form the core of the Zerg flying force and are known for making rapid raids on poorly protected installations and en masse darkening the skies over Zerg nests or land-based armies. The Zerg have won many battles by quickly deploying large numbers of Mutalisks before the enemy could establish significant air defenses. In such circumstances, the total loss of the forces involved is all but certain.
However, an equally strong air defense can keep Mutalisks at a distance since they can’t take very well. Nevertheless, the creatures remain nimble and dangerous adversaries. A Mutalisk can attack air and ground units by firing a parasitic sporeworm. This sporeworm is a voracious symbiote that can attack multiple enemies at lightning speed before exploding. In large numbers or against weak defenses, the Mutalisk will always be a deadly threat.

ZERG
General Information
The Zerg are arguably the youngest race in the Starcraft universe, but as suddenly as they appeared, so rapidly did their numbers and power grow. With sharp claws, teeth and tusks, these savage beasts charge at their opponents and fight to the death without rhyme or reason. This boundless brutality and great willingness to sacrifice, combined with their large numbers, makes almost every opponent tremble.
Even though the organic building structures grow out of order and the attacks of the zerg hordes seem unplanned, it is known that they are commanded by a powerful being – the Overmind – with the help of psi powers. Since the Overmind is under Terran control, its most powerful creation – the assimilation Sarah Kerrigan – has seized command of the swarms.
