Starcraft Units – Carrier

Carrier

CARRIER DESCRIPTION

The gigantic carriers serve as bases of operations for the commanders of the Protoss fleet. Armed with heavy armament and powerful shields, Protoss carriers are capable of breaching any enemy blockade, deploying swarms of automated interceptors to engage key enemy targets. Maneuverable and fully computer controlled, these drones quickly annihilate enemy fighter formations while incinerating slower enemy ground targets with powerful plasma bombs.

Both production and maintenance of the interceptors take place in the carrier’s docking bays. In this way, entire squadrons of fighters can be deployed at short intervals. In the course of a battle, the sight of a carrier often resembles a hornet’s nest, from within which constantly agile fighters launch to engage the enemy or land to repair damage taken. Terran scientists have long hoped for an opportunity to study a carrier to learn more about the background to perfectly organized carrier operations.

Though the majority of Protoss carriers have no defensive armament, their squadrons of fighters make them a deadly opponent even in ship-to-ship combat. There are also a smaller number of “super carriers” within the Protoss fleet, the most famous being the Gantrithor. When Executor Tassadar invaded Terran space with an expeditionary force to destroy the Zergs there, she was his flagship. The Gantrithor was powerful enough to single-handedly destroy an entire squadron of Terran heavy cruisers, then under the command of General Edmund Duke. Eventually, Tassadar sacrificed himself and his ship to destroy the Zerg Overmind that had manifested on Aiur.

PROTOSS

General Information

With their advanced technologies, the Protoss manage to spread fear and terror throughout the universe. A variety of different combat robots, as well as some specially trained fighters who possess psi powers, are available to the Protoss in their battles against other forces. However, these also have their price, the training of fighters and upgrading with robots, not only devours vast amounts of resources, but also costs a lot of time.

The Protoss are considered the oldest and most developed race, but their old culture also has disadvantages. The Protoss naturally see themselves as autocrats and do not adapt to the new dangers, they remain in their rigid caste system and preserve the strict hierarchy in their culture at all costs.
