Starcraft Remastered: The units in graphic comparison – eSportsNews eSports StarCraft

Blizzard has now published the first images of the Remastered version of the real-time strategy game classic . You can see comparisons of individual units, in addition to which some developers have given their comments. “It should feel like putting on a pair of glasses,” Rob Bridendecker, head of the Classic Games team, is quoted as saying on the website. “It’s the same game, but everything is suddenly much sharper and clearer.”

Zerg

The little Zerglings already had hands in the original, but they were barely visible at the resolution of the time. “Looking through the old instructions, concept drawings and video sequences, the scales fell from my eyes, “Oha, the Zergling has hands!” said senior 3D artist Brian Sousa. “You can see it in the little illustration too, they actually have hands! Even though they’re only two pixels in the original. So I had to do some hand-lettering to make that clearer.”

Before StarCraft Remastered, players could only imagine what the units Ultralisks were carrying around instead of normal arms. Now it’s clear that they are actually bone-like sickles.

The Zerg unit lurkers look more like spiders after the redesign. According to producer Brissia Jimenez, when they attack while dug in, the new graphics make them look even more like trapdoor spiders.

Terran

Details such as bulkheads, engines and windows are now visible on Terran heavy cruisers after the redesign. “The small square modules are facilities for the crew such as ship messes and common rooms. Incidentally, a heavy cruiser can accommodate 6,000 to 8,000 crew members,” Brissia Jimenez said.

The details of the Fire Eaters’ suits are also now perfectly visible, thanks to the HD graphics. In addition to the red metal suit, the fuel tanks and nozzles can also be seen.

In the graphic comparison, you can see very nicely the 120mm Mjolnir shock cannon targeting the enemies.

Protoss

“The predator’s “eyes” are the tubular protrusions on the side of its head, but since this unit is mechanical, periscope-like navigation technology probably fits better here,” Brissia Jimenez explained.

If before the units Dragoons looked like they had no wings, now you can see that they are four-legged.

The Archons and Dark Archons are fused Templars consisting of crackling energy. These are now no longer blurred, so that the figure in the energy ball can be easily made out.

Original Remastered

StarCraft Remastered is scheduled for release later this summer. Owners of the Remastered version and users of the original will be able to compete with and against each other. More information is available on the StarCraft Remastered theme page.
