ZERATUL
Race: Protoss
Age about 640
Dark Templar Praetor
killer / adventurer
Little is known about Zeratul’s origins, but he spent many years of his life away from his homeworld of Shakuras on various missions. Zeratul first appears when he meets Tassadar alongside Jim Raynor on Char. Since the High Templar have a fundamental aversion to the Dark Templar, this meeting did not necessarily go smoothly, but after some time the three came to an agreement and hid from the Zerg. In the wake of Sarah Kerrigan’s rebirth into the Zergflight, due to Tassadar Zasz’s distraction, Zeratul was able to destroy the Garmbrut Cerebrate and establish a connection with the Overmind, giving him insight into its goals, but also the location of Aiur experienced. Sarah Kerrigan, however, struck a devastating blow against the forces on Aiur, allowing Tassadar to escape and Zeratul being captured.

However, Tassadar, with other units from Aiur and some Terran troops, managed to free Zeratul and convince him to return to Aiur. There they met Fenix and formed an alliance with them, but Tassadar was imprisoned due to his contact with a dark templar. Zeratul, Tassadar, and Fenix decided to attack the Conclave (the Protoss supreme court) over this insistence on tradition, but failed. Zeratul and his dark templar disappeared, Tassadar was imprisoned and later freed by Jim Raynor and Fenix. The ensuing attack by Aldaris, leader of the Conclave army, to recapture Tassadar was repelled with the help of Zeratul and his Dark Templars.
After these battles, the Protoss under Fenix and Tassadar, the Dark Templar under Zeratul, and the Terran forces of Jim Raynor combined to attack the Overmind and prevent its assimilation by the Protoss. The dark templar were used to eliminate the cerebrate and weaken the Overmind, convincing even Aldaris of their necessity. As the Overmind attempted to flee, Tassadar sacrificed himself, using the dark templar technique taught to him by Zeratul, and destroyed the Overmind.
In the course of destroying the Overmind, the Zerg ran amok on Aiur, almost completely destroying it. With the only option for the protoss to flee to the dark templar, Zeratul and his newfound allies Aldaris and Artanis fled to Shakuras. Since the Zerg had followed the Protoss through the Warpgate, Raszagal, the matriarch of the Dark Templar, decided to destroy the Cerebrates and, with the help of two crystals, Uraj and Khalis, activated a Xel’Naga Temple to wipe out the Zerg.
Strengthened and lured by the fall of the Overmind and the two cerebrates onto Shakuras, Sarah Kerrigan emerged and reported of a new Overmind about to manifest. Convinced by the Matriarch, the Protoss allied with Sarah Kerrigan and succeeded in securing the Uraj Crystal on Braxis. The Khali Crystal was found near the developing Overmind, but Zeratul, with the help of the Zerg under Sarah Kerrigan’s control, managed to secure the crystal nonetheless.
When Zeratul returned to Shakuras with Artanis, they found that Aldaris had led the Templar forces in a revolt against the Dark Templar. He tried to tell them that Raszagal was under Kerrigan’s control, but couldn’t because Kerrigan showed up and killed him. Zeratul then expelled his short-term ally from Shakuras, who revealed to him that she only used the Protoss to wipe out her enemies. Regardless of what happened, Zeratul managed to bring the Khali Crystal and Artanis the Uraj Crystal to the Xel’Naga Temple and activated it, wiping out the Zerg on Shakuras.
After defending Shakuras, Zeratul was now drawn to enlisting fallen and stasis cells of ancient heroes to his cause, but some of them were killed in the process by a group of hate-filled dark templar. Zeratul then sentenced them to death, but they were rescued by a Terran task force, who in the confusion of their appearance also stole a Khaydarin crystal. In order to free him, Zeratul pursued the Terrans. They appeared to be using the crystal to control the Zerg, however, retaking the crystal only revealed that the crystal was a copy created by combining the energies of the Dark Templar and the Zerg.

All three campaigns will be released as single games. These will be released in intervals of about 1-2 years and have the following titles.
Wings of Liberty – Terran Campaign
Heart of the Swarm – Zerg Campaign
Legacy of the Void – Protoss Campaign
All three campaigns have a story mode and a game mode. In the story mode, as you know it from role-playing games, you play from the point of view of a character, e.g. Jim Raynor, with whom you get information about planets, units or the story. Here you’ll also make important decisions that will determine the course of the game’s story. It can happen that you only see some cutscenes if you have completed a certain mission sequence. You can also postpone some missions and complete them later. There are also decisions in the story mode that have an effect on the missions. For example, you decide which units will be used for a particular mission. The missions are designed so that you can complete them using different tactics.
Story (Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty) The story of StarCraft II Wings of Liberty continues the saga and takes place four years after the events of StarCraft: Brood War. The storyline features familiar characters such as Jim Raynor or Kerrigan, but new heroes such as Tychus J. Findlay or Matt Horner also play a role.
However, the campaigns of the three races are completely different. In Wings of Liberty you have to earn money through missions to reinforce your troops. As far as the story is concerned, you are Jim Raynor with the Raynor Raiders fighting against the League. The Zerg, on the other hand, have no money problems and there is no need to buy expensive technologies. The Zerg campaign itself is more role-playing oriented and you act from Kerrigan’s point of view. The Protoss campaign is mainly about diplomacy.
