Valerian Mengsk
Words are powerful tools for change. They spark revolutions. They introduce daring new ideas that shape the imagination of future generations. Valerian Mengsk was to learn that words are capable of forever changing a person’s life path.
Valerian Mengsk
Three words had this influence on Valerian Mengsk shortly after he first met his father, Arcturus Mengsk. In the seven years after his birth, Valerian Mengsk had lived a sheltered and idyllic life with his mother Juliana Pasteur on Umoja. Arcturus Mengsk, who had only recently learned of his child’s existence, disapproved of everything about his son – from reading the many books to his extraordinary physical abilities. Arcturus Mengsk privately accused Pasteur of bringing up a “weak, effeminate bookworm.” When these offended words were later repeated in the presence of his son, the latter swore to do whatever was necessary so that no one would think of him that way again, including his father.
In the years that followed, Valerian Mengsk devoted himself to improving his physical abilities, weapon training and science, even without his father by his side. Arcturus Mengsk had departed and was leading the rebellion against the Confederacy. He had little time to see his son. Valerian Mengsk and his mother constantly live on the run. They moved from hiding place to hiding place to avoid the Confederacy’s assassins. During this period, Valerian Mengsk heard about his father’s deeds mainly on the programs of the Universe News Network. This news was loaded with Confederacy propaganda, but Valerian Mengsk knew he couldn’t take everything he heard at face value.
As his twenty-first birthday approaches, Valerian Mengsk’s life and the world around him changes abruptly. His mother died of cancer, the Confederacy was defeated, and Arcturus Mengsk became Emperor of the Terran League. After Pasteur’s funeral, Arcturus Mengsk expresses his pride in the courageous and intelligent man his son had become. It was time for Valerian Mengsk to join his father and the league.
Much has changed since Valerian Mengsk assumed his role as heir to the League throne, but he still holds on to a childhood passion: archaeology. As a teenager, he spent many hours every day digging in the dust for extraterrestrial relics, of course without finding any. Now, using the League’s inexhaustible resources, Valerian searches the Koprulu Sector for genuine artifacts, primarily those left behind by the mysterious Xel’Naga civilization.
Arcturus Mengsk doesn’t share his son’s passion for archeology at all, and in a way the relationship between the two men remains strained. Valerian Mengsk respects his father, but he does not always agree with his father’s tactics, nor does he see his father’s enemies, such as freedom fighter Jim Raynor, as his own. Though Valerian Mengsk shares his father’s ruthlessness and burning desire to succeed, he also carries the righteousness and compassion of his late mother. No one can yet say whether he will retain his individuality and his distinctive understanding of values or whether he will be a prisoner – in the long shadow of his father.

All three campaigns will be released as single games. These will be released in intervals of about 1-2 years and have the following titles.
Wings of Liberty – Terran Campaign
Heart of the Swarm – Zerg Campaign
Legacy of the Void – Protoss Campaign
All three campaigns have a story mode and a game mode. In the story mode, as you know it from role-playing games, you play from the point of view of a character, e.g. Jim Raynor, with whom you get information about planets, units or the story. Here you’ll also make important decisions that will determine the course of the game’s story. It can happen that you only see some cutscenes if you have completed a certain mission sequence. You can also postpone some missions and complete them later. There are also decisions in the story mode that have an effect on the missions. For example, you decide which units will be used for a particular mission. The missions are designed so that you can complete them using different tactics.
Story (Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty) The story of StarCraft II Wings of Liberty continues the saga and takes place four years after the events of StarCraft: Brood War. The storyline features familiar characters such as Jim Raynor or Kerrigan, but new heroes such as Tychus J. Findlay or Matt Horner also play a role.
However, the campaigns of the three races are completely different. In Wings of Liberty you have to earn money through missions to reinforce your troops. As far as the story is concerned, you are Jim Raynor with the Raynor Raiders fighting against the League. The Zerg, on the other hand, have no money problems and there is no need to buy expensive technologies. The Zerg campaign itself is more role-playing oriented and you act from Kerrigan’s point of view. The Protoss campaign is mainly about diplomacy.
