Starcraft Heroes – Rory Swann

Rory Swann

An old Morian mining ad said, “The more inhospitable a moon appears, the more likely it is to find riches beneath its surface.” Those closer to Rory Swann see him as a prime example of this notion.

Rory Swann’s friends know him as a crude and uneducated man, but also as a brilliant mechanic whose knowledge rivals that of the top Terran engineers.

But even his best friends don’t know everything about Rory Swann’s past.

He comes from a long line of tech-savvy miners, and from an early age he demonstrated a better understanding of machinery and technology than anyone else in his family. Rory Swann grew up in a mining community where getting by with next to nothing was part of everyday life. These adverse living conditions forced Rory Swann to constantly innovate, and over time he became more and more adept at breaking down technical devices into their component parts and building completely new devices from them, just to keep afloat.

With that gift, Rory Swann could have left the rough life of a miner and landed a job at any leading engineering company. Instead, he decided to continue the family tradition and go into mining.

And so, after saving every credit, borrowing capital, and gathering the resources of his good friends, Rory Swann fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams and opened his own mine on the rim world of Meinhoff. He made good money at first, but the Kel-Moria Combine, which regulated the planet’s mining industry, gradually increased its taxes over time. This made it almost impossible to pay for basic necessities like food, water and medicine.

Strangely, other mining rigs on Meinhoff continued to do well. Rory Swann discovered that these facilities were all under the supervision of Tavish Kerr, the son of an influential mineral merchant. He used his father’s wealth to bribe officials on Kel-Morian. So he wanted to drive Rory Swann’s business off the planet with excessive tax demands and then take over its mineral-bearing land. Rory Swann and his companions lodged a complaint with the Combine – but to no avail. Every officer who dealt with Meinhoff appeared to have been bribed by Kerr. Doing business with the merchant’s son was also impossible because Kerr had no interest in sharing his profits with Rory Swann. He wanted sole rule.

Overwhelmed by taxes and unable to match Kerr’s bribes, Rory Swann and his cronies declared their company’s independence from Kel-Morian rule. In response, the Combine sent military troops to confiscate all equipment belonging to the insurgent community. But Rory Swann and his allies fought back. Her opponents showed no mercy. Eventually they put down the uprising and began massacring the miners. Had it not been for the emergence of freedom fighter Jim Raynor with his raiders, who had received a distress signal from the beleaguered community, none of the miners would have been alive.

Rory Swann survived, but the revolt had taken a heavy toll: the mining company was ruined, Rory Swann had lost an arm in battle, and many of his best friends were dead. Nothing could stop Rory Swann from Meinhoff, so he joined Raynor’s Raiders. He has been the good soul of the Hyperion ever since, valued not only for his inventive weaponry and ability to keep the aging rebel ship afloat, but also for the wise advice he imparts to members of the crew.

Though the Raiders have been going through some tough times lately, Rory Swann’s optimism keeps the group spirited. He has not forgotten his debt to Raynor and his loyalty to the rebel leader is unwavering. If Rory Swann learned anything from his experiences as a miner, it is that the only way to get through life’s darkest hours is to believe in those around you. And if the Raiders learned anything from Rory Swann, it’s that you should never judge a moon by its surface.

Campaigns in general

In Starcraft 2, as in the first part, there is a single player mode. In this mode you play the campaigns of each race. On this page you will find the individual missions of the campaigns which we summarize as a walkthrough.

All three campaigns will be released as single games. These will be released in intervals of about 1-2 years and have the following titles.

Wings of Liberty – Terran Campaign

Heart of the Swarm – Zerg Campaign

Legacy of the Void – Protoss Campaign

All three campaigns have a story mode and a game mode. In the story mode, as you know it from role-playing games, you play from the point of view of a character, e.g. Jim Raynor, with whom you get information about planets, units or the story. Here you’ll also make important decisions that will determine the course of the game’s story. It can happen that you only see some cutscenes if you have completed a certain mission sequence. You can also postpone some missions and complete them later. There are also decisions in the story mode that have an effect on the missions. For example, you decide which units will be used for a particular mission. The missions are designed so that you can complete them using different tactics.

Story (Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty) The story of StarCraft II Wings of Liberty continues the saga and takes place four years after the events of StarCraft: Brood War. The storyline features familiar characters such as Jim Raynor or Kerrigan, but new heroes such as Tychus J. Findlay or Matt Horner also play a role.

However, the campaigns of the three races are completely different. In Wings of Liberty you have to earn money through missions to reinforce your troops. As far as the story is concerned, you are Jim Raynor with the Raynor Raiders fighting against the League. The Zerg, on the other hand, have no money problems and there is no need to buy expensive technologies. The Zerg campaign itself is more role-playing oriented and you act from Kerrigan’s point of view. The Protoss campaign is mainly about diplomacy.
