FIFA

The FIFA series, formerly known as FIFA Football or FIFA Soccer, developed by EA Sports, is a series of soccer computer games. The series has been in existence since late 1994 with the release of FIFA International Soccer. Since then, every year this is expanded with a new edition of the game with the latest data from the world of soccer, so that the series consists of 15 games so far. On September 24, 2010, xxx 11, the 16th installment of the series, was released, and on September 30, FIFA 12, the 17th installment, will arrive. In addition to the main games, which have a consecutive year in the title, EA Sports releases different offshoots (see FIFA Street) of the games at irregular intervals, as well as stand-alone versions for World and European Championships.

Due to the complete licensing of the game by FIFA, FIFPro and numerous national associations, the series offers a large number of international leagues, players and national teams. There are a total of over 30 leagues and 500 licensed teams in the game. The number of playable tournaments varies in each version, EA reserves the right in recent years to release individual competitions, such as the UEFA Champions League or World and European Championships as separate games and remove these tournaments from FIFA Football, but so far you could still use these features (but the UEFA Champions League is available in the game as the EC Cup, for example). In the manager mode you can choose a team, which you then accompany through several seasons. As a manager, sponsorship contracts are negotiated and players are signed, in addition to the usual gameplay.

In addition to the friendly match mode, tournament mode, manager mode and league mode, the series has both a multiplayer mode and an editor, with which you can make changes to the game, such as to player appearances, tactics and team lineups. The official external editor Creation Center allows further changes to kits, balls, etc..

Since FIFA 08, the game also includes the so-called "Be A Pro" mode, in which you can play through the career of an existing or self-created player. During the season you collect "Attribute" points, which you can use to improve your player's skills. In addition, a new camera, the "Third Person" camera, was introduced, which is supposed to give the player a realistic and close-up view of the action on the pitch.

FIFA Online

FIFA Online is in open beta since May 26th 2010 and can be tested by everyone. FIFA Online is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online community game for the PC. The game uses the gleivation is generated by 20 experience levels that the player can level up. And this is very good.

FIFA in e-sports

The online gaming scene developed rapidly in FIFA games. FIFA is one of the most popular online games in the world, which is shown by the fact that FIFA has been a WCG discipline every year so far. Furthermore, FIFA has been a permanent discipline since the third season of the German ESL Pro Series, which is why very many German multigaming clans maintain FIFA squads. Thus, FIFA has established itself as an e-sports title in Germany.

Currently, FIFA is played professionally in the World League eSport Bundesliga, the Electronic Sports League, the ClanBase, the WWCL and the VFBL, among others. In the German eSports League (GEL), founded in 2006, FIFA is played exclusively.

In part, FIFA contains program errors, the exploitation of which bring advantages to the skilled player. In FIFA 2005, for example, the use of off-the-ball controls had to be banned in league play because it was too easy to score goals with their use.

FIFA 23 will be the last "FIFA" - EA explains how it will go on afterwards

t's official: EA Sports is parting ways with the "FIFA" name and renaming its soccer series - at least to FIFA 23. EA explains what this means for the game in a statement.

This is the new name: In an official statement, EA Sports announced that the FIFA series will continue in a new form from July 2023: As "EA Sports FC."

Before that, however, EA Sports will continue as is for another year. "FIFA 23" is to be the last game in collaboration with the current name partner, FIFA.

What will happen with FIFA after FIFA 23?

What remains in EA Sports FC of FIFA? In the statement EA Sports clarified that the important licenses to real players, leagues and more will remain in "EA Sports FC". This applies to

  • Over 19,000 players
  • Over 700 teams
  • Over 100 stadiums
  • And 30 leagues

This also includes exclusive partnerships, for example with the Bundesliga, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and MLS.

In addition, the well-known modes will also return. Ultimate Team, the career mode, Pro Clubs and VOLTA will also find their place in EA Sports FC.

Not a sudden change: Leaks have been making the rounds for a while that such a renaming could happen. The terms "EA Sports FC" or "EA Sports Football Club" appeared over and over again as possible alternatives to "FIFA". Now it is official.

The whole discussion about the name was preceded by an announcement from publisher EA in 2021, in which a new name for the "EA Sports soccer games" was openly considered. Among the reasons discussed were the high price for the name license from the FIFA association and questions of influence on the game.
