Sequel should be the most advanced experience of the franchise

Activision has dedicated itself to the “” series in its latest annual report, releasing some details on both current games and upcoming experiences.

The “Call of Duty” series will continue in 2022. And development of “this year’s Premium and experiences led by Infinity Ward” is progressing well, according to publisher Activision’s statement.

Likewise, the company reaffirmed that this year’s “Call of Duty” is the sequel to 2019’s “Modern Warfare.” It is said to be the “most advanced experience in the history of the franchise.”

Developed from the ground up alongside the regular “Call of Duty” game, the new free-to-play experience in “Warzone” features “groundbreaking innovations that will be revealed later this year,” according to Activision. Whether it’s another update to the existing “Warzone” or really some sort of “Warzone 2” coming to players isn’t clear beyond a doubt.

Falling sales with Call of Duty

“Call of Duty” net bookings on console and PC declined year-over-year in the first quarter, which Activision said was due to lower premium sales of “Call of Duty: Vanguard” year-over-year and lower engagement in “Call of Duty: Warzone.” Net bookings of “” were nearly unchanged from the year-ago quarter.

Net Bookings describes the net amount generated from products and services and includes digital and physical game sales as well as royalties, merchandise, in-game advertising, strategy guides and similar items. Accordingly, it is the net revenues booked.

Development team expanded

In today’s announcement of its latest financial results, Activision also highlighted that it continued to expand its “Call of Duty” development resources in the first quarter.

“Growing teams are focused on delivering more compelling content to the community on PC and console, and expanding Warzone to the mobile platform,” the company said.
