Scandal in e-sports captured CS:GO – dogs banned for 2 years

Coach Nicolai “HUNDEN” Petersen has now been banned for 2 years. He is accused of revealing secret plans of his team, Heroic, to a competitor at a tournament in Cologne. He is alleged to have prepared his transfer. This is the second major scandal in e-sports within a few months.

This is the coach:

  • 30-year-old Dane Nicolai “HUNDEN” Petersen was a pro himself in Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for 11 years before becoming a coach in 2020.
  • However, things didn’t go so well as a coach, back in September 2020 he had received a ban for allegedly exploiting the “coaching exploit”. This was a major e-sports scandal in CS:GO.
  • However, no sooner had the ban expired than he was fired from his team Heroic. Serious allegations against him have surfaced.

That was the accusation of his team: We reported on MyMMO in July 2021 that Heroic had fired its coach Hunden and was going to sue him.

The accusation was: Hunden had given secret strategies of his team to a competitor at the IEM Cologne in Cologne, a tournament for $972,000. He had blocked his own team members from accessing the folder with the team strategies.

HUNDEN, however, denied this. He had never done anything like that.

2 years exclusion from major tournaments in CS:GO

This is now the verdict: The case has now been dealt with by the Integrity Commission (). It has conducted an investigation.

They have come to the conclusion that HUNDEN will be banned for 2 years. He can now no longer participate in tournaments hosted by members of ESIC. He is banned from ESL, Dreamhack and BLAST tournaments.

In principle, this is tantamount to a professional ban for the CS:GO coach.

Coach allegedly wanted job with new team – so he betrayed his old team

What did the investigation reveal? The investigation revealed that HUNDEN was apparently planning to move to another team and therefore wanted to share Heroic’s strategies with the other team.

The name of the team is not public. However, the e-sports site Dotesports reported that the team could be Astralis, which allegedly targeted HUNDEN as a coach.

This is what HUNDEN says: In an interview, HUNDEN felt he was unfairly blocked. He said the committee have not heard his story of the site, but threatened to block him for 5 years if he appealed the ruling.

The committee denies this. They say; DOGS failed to rebut the evidence against him in any way, although he was asked to do so.

Is e-sports just a bubble about to burst? The biggest problems analyzed

This is the aftermath of the case right now: HUNDEN seems to want to take revenge on his Team Heroic. So he says that the members of the team knew about the “coaching exploit” for which he and other coaches were banned (via dotesports).

The team denies this, however.

The “Coaching Exploit” was the last major e-sports scandal to rock CS:GO. That one was also just a few months ago. Such scandals seem to threaten the integrity of e-sports:

In CS:GO, 37 coaches are banned for cheating – They’re already talking about “The Purge”
