S1mple with a brilliant performance: Navi triumphs at the PGL CS:GO Major in the final against G2 – eSportsNews eSports #CS:GO

The most important tournament of the year goes to Navi. With a 2:0 against the Berlin team G2, the team takes the trophy at the PGL Major – and makes history with the run through the tournament.

beat G2 2-0 (16:11; 22:19) in the final of the PGL Major to win the most important Counter-Strike tournament of the year. For superstar Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliw it is the triumph at a Major tournament.

“I said to myself: I’ll stay with Navi, and win the Major with the team. I promised myself, and we kept it,” s1mple said in the post-game interview. “A lot of people didn’t believe it, and made jokes about it, but we still did it.”

Map choice from goes to Navi

Navi had marched through the preliminary round and playoffs without surrendering a single map. Even for Team Vitality and Gambit Esports, the team that had always been in first place in the unofficial world rankings of “HLTV.org” since July was too strong.

G2 was first able to throw Ninjas in Pyjamas out of the tournament with aplomb, but only advanced to the final against Heroic in the semifinals after overtime on the third map.

Already on the first map of the final, both teams engaged in a close battle. The game remained even until the second half, but a short run was enough for Navi to pull away and take away G2’s own map choice.

Overtime at the Counter-Strike Major

On the second map, G2 showed itself much stronger and secured five match points after a strong half. Actually, the team was thus close to equalizing, but Navi still made up the deficit and forced overtime.

Bitter for G2: At the score of 15:13, star player Nikola “NiKo” Kovac had sneaked unnoticed behind the back of the opponents, but did not hit a single shot and lost the round.

Navi took the momentum from the comeback into overtime, needing only one more round to win the tournament. G2 still fought back and forced a second overtime, but there the defensive attempts were unsuccessful. In the organization’s fourth major final, the title thus went to Navi for the first time.

Majors are considered the CS:GO World Championship

Navi makes history by running through the tournament to do so: for the first time, a team could win a Major title without surrendering a single card during the tournament.

There are usually two Counter-Strike Majors each year. Because the best teams worldwide travel there, the tournaments are equivalent to a world championship. Due to the Corona pandemic, the last Major took place in Berlin over two years ago.
