RTS classic now free, patch 1.18 released

As promised a few weeks ago, Blizzard Entertainment has made the RTS classic and its expansion Starcraft: Brood War available for download for free. The system requirements are ridiculously low by today’s standards, and don’t really need to be mentioned. For example, 16 MB of RAM is required. Modern operating systems up to Windows 10 are supported, of course.

Parallel to the free release of Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War, Blizzard has also released patch 1.18, the first in over eight years! Among other things, it adds a windowed fullscreen mode, an observer mode and a display for the number of actions per second. The complete changelog can be found below.   • Fixed bugs with the color palette that caused “rainbow” colored water, 80s kerrigan and other image errors.
  • Fixed bugs in LAN game search.
  • Fixed input errors and other text artifacts in Battle.net menus.
  • Fixed LAN and Legacy issues in Battle.net.
