Rocket League gets a Rocket Pass.
In the update roadmap for Rocket League published in May, Psyonix gave a small preview of the new XP system and the upcoming Rocket Pass.
Now the developers have revealed more concrete information about the Rocket Pass, which is strikingly reminiscent of Fortnite’s Battle Pass – and works almost exactly the same way.
What is the Rocket Pass in Rocket League?
The Rocket Pass is a new, time-limited progression system that allows you to unlock new content in Rocket League. The Rocket Pass does not replace the previous XP system and works independently of it.
Like the Battle Pass in Fortnite, you level up as you accumulate experience points, gradually unlocking new rewards, including premium items. Different Rocket Passes will be offered over time.
The Rocket Pass costs around 10 US dollars, but there is also supposed to be a free version.
Rocket Pass – contents, differences & item trade
Depending on which Rocket Pass you choose, you will receive a number of extras.
- The free Rocket Pass gives you access to new cosmetic items for your car, player banner, in-game title and decryptor. You can also get the coveted keys to open item boxes in the free version of Rocket Pass.
- The Premium Rocket Pass offers you even more content with new cosmetic items, bodies, keys, premium banners and premium titles. In addition, you’ll receive XP boosts to level up even faster and XP awards to climb higher levels of the Rocket Pass.
The free version is thus only an appetizer. Only the Premium Rocket Pass should contain really motivating extras, but it requires ten keys – and thus costs about 10 US dollars.
After all: You can view the rewards of the Premium Rocket Pass at any time, so you don’t buy a pig in a poke.
However, you can upgrade from the free Rocket Pass to the Premium Rocket Pass at any time without losing content or progress.
The unlocked rewards can also be traded with other players as usual, with exceptions like in-game titles.

Tiers and Pro Tiers – The Rocket Pass levels
If you have an active Rocket Pass and level up, you will reach different Tiers, i.e. Rocket Pass levels. The more you unlock, the more rewards you get.
If you want to get rewards even faster, you can level up for keys or real money, just like in Fortnite.
Once you have reached the Premium Rocket Pass and all Tiers, you will receive Pro Tiers from now on. For each Pro Tier level, you’ll get a random, special version of an already unlocked Premium Rocket Pass item.
When is the Rocket Pass coming?
The first Rocket Pass is scheduled for release this summer, according to Psyonix sometime between July and August. However, there are no concrete details about a possible release yet.
Currently, the developers are still working on the new system and are trying to get the balance right.
Also in the summer, Rocket League will finally get cross-platform friends lists.
