G2 chief Carlos Rodriguez’s boisterous party with Andrew Tate has now resulted in the ultimate consequence. Rodriguez officially resigns.
Update 9/24/2022: G2 boss Carlos Rodriguez should have thought twice with whom he spent his nights. After the scandal of the party night with Andrew Tate, not only was the G2 Valorant team kicked out of the next Valorant League, but Rodriguez was also forced to take a leave of absence. Now the G2 boss has decided to officially step down. Both sides announced this via Twitter. Rodriguez shared Video on Twitter and said:
I can’t believe what I’m about to say. My time at G2 has come to an end, which means I am stepping down from my position as CEO. […] This is a hard end to an otherwise very meaningful and joyful experience. […] I take full responsibility for everything that has happened in the last few days.
G2 also confirmed Rodriguez’s resignation via Twitter, reiterating that they do not support misogyny in any way, but want to continue to support and grow inclusivity and a “diverse gaming community.” Who will succeed Carlos Rodriguez at G2 is still unknown.
Update 9/23/2022: The head of the e-sports organization G2 has catapulted himself into extinction and his organization probably along with him. After a party video with Andrew Tate, Carlos Santiago was hit with a shitstorm. But instead of backing down, he defended his party with Andrew Tate. The latter is currently banned from all major social media because he spread hate speech, especially against women. As a consequence, Santiago was suspended from his post without pay, but this measure probably came too late.
After Andrew Tate affair: G2 not in the 2023 Valorant League
Actually, G2’s teams are represented in every league and tournament, but Riot Games kicked G2 out of the upcoming Valorant League. The reason seems to be the Andrew Tate affair. The company released the list of all partners for the 2023 Valorant League on Wednesday and G2 is nowhere to be seen. When it comes to choosing partners, Riot Game “Organizations that [ihre] Share values that always put the fans first, that [ihre] value diverse community and are committed to supporting professionals.“
For G2, this decision by Riot Games comes out of nowhere. In fact, as Kotaku reports, G2 was already promised a spot in the 2023 Valorant League. After an emergency meeting, however, Riot has probably changed its mind.
First reported on 9/19/2022: Berlin – A famous professional gamer and CEO of a major e-sports organization self-destructs on Twitter in just 8 seconds. A hilarious party video shows him with Andrew Tate, the nemesis of half the internet. The boss of the LoL team first pretends to be immune to criticism, but is then sent into forced retirement by his own team.
E-sports CEO celebrates hilariously with misogynist and tweets it himself – immediately gives a shitstorm
This CEO is in big trouble now: Carlos Rodríguez Santiago lived the dream of many gamers. First he became a professional gamer and dominated as “ocelote” with his skill in League of Legends: he made it to the World Championships several times. Then, in his 20s, he founded the famous e-sports team G2 in Berlin, rocking in LoL, Fortnite and Counter Strike. To this day, Carlos Rodríguez is G2’s CEO, or boss. But an 8-second video turned his dream life into a nightmare.
This is the scandal video: On Twitter, since September 17, a mere 8-second clip of a party has been circulating, shared by Carlos Rodríguez himself. We see champagne bottles, sparklers and good humor. But stop, who is that with the fat cigar in his mouth? That’s right, in the party video of G2 CEO Rodríguez celebrating with the hated Andrew Tate.
Over the weekend, an unparalleled shitstorm erupted. There was real anger and criticism boiled over. Here you can see the said party video on Twitter:
This is why half the internet hates Andrew Tate: Andrew Tate is a former boxer from the USA. But he came to ‘fame’ through social media. The list of his critics is endless.
- On TikTok and Twitter, Andrew Tate spreads a backward-looking image of women, in clear words: he is a misogynist.
- He propagates in ‘toxic masculinity’ that women belong behind the hearth, should not be allowed to drive, but worse: women are responsible for their own rape.
- To round out the package, Tate is an avowed racist and ardent supporter of Donald Trump. Teachers warn in the US about Andrew Tate with: “Misogynist who radicalizes schoolboys.“.
- The renowned magazine Kotaku unabashedly calls Andrew Tate: “a piece of shit“. GQ sums up Andrew Tate in a few words, saying he “speaks unintelligibly […], supports Donald Trump and mocks #MeToo activist:inside“. The Standard headlines about Tate: “Misogyny and homophobia as a business model“.
- Currently, Andrew Tate lives in Romania, according to his own statement. Journalists assume that he will not face any penalties or extradition here. He himself says that the reason for the move is that the US system is so broken that he enjoys more freedom in Romania.
So Andrew Tate is viewed critically, to say the least. But what is he doing at a party hosted by Carlos “ocelot” Rodríguez Santiago?
“I partied with whoever the hell I want,” CEO said before suspension
It’s just a party among friends: G2 exuberantly celebrated their successes in League of Legends, because in 2022 it goes to the Worlds, the big championship in LoL, for the team. As it turns out, Andrew Tate is a good friend of G2 boss Rodríguez.
Since half the Internet immediately took Tate under fire and criticized the party guest, Rodríguez tweeted Answers like: “I’ll party with whoever I damn well please” or let it be known in his tweets:
No one will ever be able to control my friendship.
These are the consequences now: But the wave of outrage kept rising and eventually overtook the CEO. His own team, G2, pulled the emergency brake and summarily suspended Rodríguez – 8 weeks of forced leave without pay is the first consequence. Of course, this punishment doesn’t go nearly far enough for the angry half of the Internet.
Carlos Rodríguez Santiago then shone with late insight. He apologized on Twitter, vowed to mend his ways, and wrote sentences from the de-escalation handbook such as: “Feel terrible about the discussions I have caused and will stand up and take the consequences to the fullest extent” it says, for example.
On social media, Carlos Rodríguez “ocelot” Santiago’s first unalloyed loyalty is also well received. But the few voices are lost in the chorus of criticism. As a public figure, one has to assess the consequences of one’s actions, they say. In Germany, too, a Twitch streamer claimed that women were complicit in rape – the shitstorm on Twitter followed promptly.
