Despite the current state of affairs, Activision Blizzard is naturally heavy into video game development. With the just-released Diablo 2 Resurrected, they focused on reviving a classic, while Overwatch 2 will continue the successful first-person shooter.
Blizzard now has new information for fans about the latter. Just recently, they announced that they would share some details about the Sombra and Bastion reworks as part of the Overwatch League Grand Finals. For this purpose, the company has now published two short videos that present the changes of the two heroes in detail.
An invisible danger: the rework of Sombra
Sombra might be a double-edged sword for many players. Those who have the invisible hack in their own team rejoice over the bad-tempered opponents. Those who play against her and have to keep a constant eye on their own backs to avoid being killed from behind are more likely to loathe her.
Despite the rework, this playstyle is unlikely to change much in Overwatch 2. After all, the good one can still block other players’ skills with her hacking ability. But while the cooldown of the hacking has been significantly reduced, the blocking effect also lasts much shorter. In return, Sombra now deals bonus damage to the heroes she hinders.
Her ultimate ability still hacks all enemies it hits, but no longer removes shields and instead deals damage equal to 40% of the enemy’s current life. In addition, Sombra’s invisibility is no longer removed when she uses her hacking skill. She is briefly visible while hacking, but immediately becomes invisible again afterwards.
A Peaceful Killer Robot: The Rework of Bastion
In contrast to Sombra’s subtle but rather minor adjustments, the bird-loving robot Bastion can enjoy a full-blown all-around makeover. Visual changes include a newer look and a stylish hat to give him more character.
But of course, Bastion also gets to enjoy gameplay changes. The peaceful robo-hero loses his ability to repair himself and thus regenerate life. Instead, he can now shoot a bullet that bounces off walls and attaches itself to enemy heroes. After a short delay, the projectile explodes, causing area damage and knocking enemies back.
In addition, you have adjusted its normal shots, which now scatter less, but are shot at a lower rate of fire. Bastion’s ultimate ability has also been completely reworked. Instead of a tank mode, this now puts him in an artillery mode, where he can summon three artillery strikes at random points across the map.
Because he was robbed of some mobility in Ultimate, he now gets it donated to his gun mode. While he was previously anchored to one place, he can move freely as a gun in Overwatch 2. In his mobile form, however, he travels a bit slower and the ability has a cooldown to balance it out.
What do you think of the changes and would you like to see them applied to your favorite heroes? Or would you rather they stay as they are? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments.
