Do you still remember the launch of WoW Classic? The Blizzard developers had so little confidence in their own retro product that initially there were only going to be a few servers for all of Europe. Shitstorm number 1 followed, because many players wanted language servers – as they did back then – and enough of them. Blizzard gave in, but then provided far too few realms for most regions at release. The consequences of this decision still have an impact today. Many of the servers taken offline in August 2022 were among those that were added far too late by Blizzard, and therefore never managed to build up a healthy population, even though other worlds were bursting at the seams.
Reboot with WotLK Classic
For the upcoming Launch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic on September 27, 2022. Blizzard now wants to offer the chance for a restart. Parallel to the pre-patch of WotLK Classic, new servers will be made available on August 31, on which all characters will start a completely new adventure. The rules for the restart are clear:
- All players start with new characters at level 1.
- You may not level up your character on new start realms for at least 90 days.
- For at least 90 days, realms for new beginnings are not available destinations for character transfers.
- Death knights cannot be created on these realms without a level 55 character on the same realm.

Recently, community manager Kaivax finally revealed which restart servers there will be in concrete terms, and the choice does not meet with much approval from many players:
“On Wednesday, Aug. 31, two new realms will become available for the Restart, where you will be able to create and play characters as soon as maintenance for the patch is complete. The names of these realms are:
Thekal (PvP)
Giantstalker (Normal)
We are super excited to see you there next week!”
So let’s keep in mind that, as with the launch of WoW. (buy now ) Classic, Blizzard also wants to offer only the absolute minimum for the restart servers: one PvE and one PvP server for all of Europe. RP server? Missing? Language server? Doesn’t exist. The comments under the post read accordingly critical. The disappointment is great. Many players who wanted to start anew are no longer interested. Do you feel the same way?
