In order to send a signal against the war against Ukraine, which violates international law, Electronic Arts announced that it would ban all Russian teams from its in-house sports series “NHL” and “FIFA”. As EA Sports confirmed, all Russian players and clubs have been removed from the FUT packs in the meantime.
Publishers and developer studios around the globe also condemned the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops in recent days, which is contrary to international law.
To send a signal against Russia’s policy, publishers not only stopped selling their games in Russia. At the same time, Electronic Arts, for example, announced announced, that all Russian clubs and athletes will be banned from the in-house sports game series “NHL” and “FIFA”. In a current announcement EA Sports pointed out today that with immediate effect all Russian players, equipment and clubs have been removed from the FUT mode of “FIFA 22” respectively the corresponding FUT packages.

“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like so many voices in the world of soccer, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine,” the company said. “In line with real action taken by our partners at FIFA and UEFA, the following FUT objects will no longer be available in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) packages and Ultimate Draft.”
In the real world, FIFA already excluded Russia from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while UEFA banned Spartak Moscow, the last Russian team in the Europe League, giving RB Leipzig a bye in the round of 16.

In “NHL 22” it will probably take a while until the Russian teams and athletes under the Russian flag will be removed here as well. A statement from the developers last week said, “Following the suspension of all Russian and Belarusian national and club teams by the IIHF from IIHF competitions, we will remove these teams from NHL 22 in the coming weeks. We stand with the people of Ukraine and join the voices around the world calling for peace.”
