Kötz graduated from Hermann-Böse-Gymnasium, an elite school specializing in natural and linguistic sciences. During his education, Kötz excelled in both academics and athletics. Among his many unique attributes, he speaks several languages and has a gift for quickly developing a feel for a language. His imposing physique and excellent command of weapons make him tailor-made for fighting in confined spaces and searching buildings. His tactical experience ensures his place among the Rainbow elite. Because of his skills, academic background, and friendly nature, he is in high demand. As a soldier in the “Rapid Forces” in Kosovo, he was unceremoniously accepted into GSG 9. Kötz was instrumental in establishing the training programs and fostering good relations between India’s National Security Guard and GSG 9.

PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT

Special Forces Officer Elias “Blitz” Kötz has witnessed many intense combat operations, but is physically and mentally robust. His nature is best described as jovial, though his team would more likely attest to his “goofy” sense of humor. My son would certainly see it similarly. Kötz uses humor primarily to defuse stressful situations. His teammates are grateful for his valuable efforts, even if previous commanders often thought otherwise.  It’s not that he doesn’t take his job seriously. Just the opposite is the case: on numerous occasions, he led the way in storming a barricade and was often willing to put the team’s safety above his own. The fact that Kötz does not classify his own actions as heroic is such a quirk of his. But of course that doesn’t change anything about his outstanding performance.

In principle, I consider myself to be physically fit. Of course, I know that special forces are in a league of their own, but even among them Kötz stands out. He likes to joke about how often our medical team wants to hook him up to some new machine to test his physical limits. For many others, that kind of attention might be too much, but Kötz is easygoing about it.

Despite his funny nature and quick wit, Kötz also has a serious side. When he once told me about how beautiful his childhood was and in what freedom he was brought up, he suddenly stopped. He looked at me seriously and said, “We have a responsibility to look out for each other. I take that very seriously.” I have not the slightest doubt about that.  I noticed that Blitz is a close confidant of special forces officer Lera “Finka” Melnikova. When I asked him about it, he replied that they like to take each other for a ride. He also said that she impresses him. Sometimes I wonder if he harbors guilt about being so healthy.

One can’t help but mention Kötz’s mental agility, although he often underuses it in operations. His friendship with special operations officer Gilles “Montagne” Touré perhaps offers a way to get Kötz to use his own skills more, and reinforce the comparative advantage of the two.
