Rainbow Six: Nothing can stop Caneo

Switzerland has a new star player in the world: Yannic “Caneo” Martin. In just one year, everything has changed for Martin.

At 19 years old, Yannic “Caneo” Martin is in the prime of his eSports career. He plays Rainbow Six Siege with Usain Bolt’s team “WYLDE”, travels around the world to various and within a year is already among the Swiss top 10 in the prize money ranking with 100,000 dollars. Of all time.

12 months ago, Martin was only known to the most die-hard R6 fans – and in the Swiss eSports scene. Now he is known far beyond the country’s borders. At the beginning of August, WYLDE played in the Gamers8 tournament in Riyadh, where they made it into the top 4. Besides the good result, Caneo also won the prize money for the best highlight and the best stats. A total of 75,000 dollars for the piggy bank.

After that, things continued right away: Last weekend, WYLDE secured the championship title in the Rainbow Six of the DACH region, the GSA League. “The last few months have been very stressful,” Caneo tells us. “I’ve been traveling a lot and when I was in Switzerland, I was just training for the big tournaments we had coming up. Very little free time, but it was worth it!”

Rocket rise

With the GSA title, WYLDE qualified for the newly formed European Challenger League in the R6 ecosystem. In the future, this will unite the of the European regional leagues and will be used as the second highest league in Europe. Yannic Martin probably didn’t expect to find himself at this point in his career.

Last year he was still playing with Team Socially in the Swiss Esports League, then switched via various fun teams to the Polish group Anonymo Esports, with whom he also tried his hand at the Open Qualifier for the Six Invitational.

“We had a very good run,” Caneo recalls. “Then we played WYLDE and lost 6-8.”

Rather bad for the team, but a very successful loss for Caneo personally: “I played so strong and impressive that they wanted to put me in Trials.”

Only one week of trials was enough for WYLDE to realize: this young Swiss must join their team. So Yannic “Caneo” Martin joined Usain Bolt’s eSports team “WYLDE” in March 2022.

So what now?

In the meantime, the “Fastest Man in the World” has already contacted Caneo and the team personally: “We have been sent videos of him congratulating us and have also seen messages. Really we don’t have much to do with Usain, because of course he’s a very busy man and so are we.” During the Gamers8 tournament, there was a shoutout from Bolt to Caneo via Twitter.

In any case, there have been enough highlights in recent months to warrant a message from the boss himself.

One thing will definitely stay in Caneo’s memory for a long time. “The highlight of the last two tournaments has to be the 1v4 against Team Liquid at Gamers8. How that came about is still not entirely clear to me.”
