Prodigal son wins 1st match in CoD Warzone 2

Nicholas โ€œNickmercsโ€ Kolcheff (31) is the first big winner of the new games to Call of Duty. The US American won the first match in Call of Warzone 2 on Sept. 15, and he was by far the most watched streamer on Twitch on the night of the โ€œCoD: Nextโ€ event. He beat the official channel of Call of Duty, the French Gotaga and Ninja. His advantage: the competition in CoD is now off Twitch.

Who won the evening to Call of Duty on Twitch? On the evening of 9/15, the Call of Duty Next event ran โ€“ Activision Blizzard invited 150 live streamers to show off their new Call of Duty offering. The Twitch streamers were live for 5 hours.

We know the numbers on Twitch (via sullygnome):

  • The winner in the end was Nickmercs, he had 71,011 viewers on average, 101,584 in peak.
  • This gave Nickmercs more viewers than Call of Dutyโ€™s official Twitch channel, more than the French Star Gotaga, and more than Ninja, which only came in at 6th place
  • In Germany, the Twitch streamer โ€œSTYLERZโ€ was the leader. He has been showing Call of Duty: Warzone all year. Internationally, he was in 16th place.

Streamer was huge in CoD Warzone in 2021 โ€“ but hit angry

Why is he the prodigal son? From Activision Blizzardโ€™s perspective, itโ€™s important to get Nickmercs excited about Call of Duty again:

  • Nickmercs was by far the biggest streamer on Call of Duty: Warzone in 2021
  • However, in 2022 he went off the flag and showed almost only the competition, from Legends
  • So thereโ€™s strategic value in bringing him back to CoD Warzone right now and getting him excited

CoD Warzone loses its biggest Twitch streamer โ€“ โ€œWould rather be playing fucking Pokรฉmon!โ€

Where are the other great Twitch streamers? Many Twitch streamers closely associated with Call of Duty moved to YouTube in recent years:

  • TimTheTatman went 2021 โ€“ heโ€™s such the good mood bear of Call of Duty
  • CourageJD has been on YouTube for a long time
  • DrDisrespect had to flee into exile after being banned there โ€“ but he was out anyway. He fell out of favor with Call of Duty

Activision Blizzard had invited few โ€œgenerally great streamersโ€ from the US except Ninja: shroud is probably too close to โ€“ xQc they probably donโ€™t want necessarily because of his gambling proximity. Tfue is in fever right now.

So there were mostly Call of Duty streamers on site.

These two could have rivaled Nickmercโ€™s โ€“ but both are no longer on Twitch.

Nickmercs: Strong partners and most careful play brought 1st win

How did the 1st match go for him? At the event CoD Next the first โ€œreal matchโ€ was played by Warzone.

Nickmercs competed together with 2 teammates:

  • the Twitch streamer iSmixie, who also practically only shows CoD Warzone
  • FaZE Scope, a player for the e-sports clan FaZe.

So by then he had quite a bit of firepower on his side. He played to win from the start anyway, took few risks and stayed together in the team.

After initial technical difficulties, in-game communications not working, Nickmercs slowly got going. He barricaded himself and his team on the roofs of skyscrapers, changed positions again and again, and played rather wait-and-see.

In the end, Nickmercs and his team played the map, took few risks, stayed together as a team, and were able to eliminate scattered opponents in the tightening final circle.

Nickmercs had 5 kills by the matchโ€™s end, a classic tactical .
