Pro allegedly skipped match because of Valorant – eSportsNews eSports Overwatch

Valorant is the reason why some pros have turned their backs on Blizzard’s hero shooter. As a result, another Overwatch pro is currently facing accusations of skipping games to play Valorant in peace.

Who are we talking about?

Gui-un “Decay” Jang is a 19-year-old Overwatch pro gamer from Team Dallas Fuel. In the otherwise average team, he is the star. However, he was last absent on June 20 in a match against the worst team in the league, the Vancouver Titans.

Why did Decay miss?

According to Dallas Fuel coach Aaron “Aero” Atkins, Decay needed to rest. Since the Titans were not a strong opponent, newcomer Stefan “Onigod” Fiskerstrand was put in his place instead to prove himself to the team.

But Brad Rajani, the coach of the Atlanta Reigns team, has a different theory. He spread the rumor on reddit that Decay rather voluntarily retired to the bench, but not to rest. Rather, Rajani suggested that Decay had been playing ’s team shooter and Overwatch competitor Valorant the entire time.

What’s up with the “skipping league games” rumors?

What is the evidence for the accusation? In fact, the Atlanta coach’s accusation hits fertile ground. In the recent past, many Overwatch pros have left Overwatch in the middle of the league and switched to Valorant. A professional scene is currently forming in Valorant. Prominent examples here include top players like Jay “Sinaatra” Won and Corey “Corey” Nigra.

Seetoth “JohnGalt” Jian Qing, the assistant coach of the Los Angeles Gladiators, also confirms this trend:

“It’s true, there are a lot of Overwatch players who switch directly to Valorant after the warm-up rounds are over. So really a lot!”

Valorant appeals to many disaffected Overwatch players with its tactical gameplay, but still influenced by heroes and their abilities. Even top streamer Summit1g therefore sees Valorant as 10 times better than Overwatch. So has Decay simply lost his passion for Overwatch, like so many of his pro colleagues before him?

Valorant Fire
In Valorant there are heroes and , but they are not as game-changing as in Overwatch.

What is the argument against the accusation?

At least the last point can probably be taken off the list again, because Decay probably also plays Overwatch diligently outside of tournaments and also streams this. In his stream, there would be nothing to see of listlessness and fatigue for Overwatch.

Rather, his coach maintains that it’s perfectly normal to rest the team’s top star when facing weaker opponents. However, it could well be that he would start against the Toronto Defiants in the next round. For tactical reasons, however, the coach did not disclose more detailed information about the lineup.

What else is there to say on the subject?

The topic of “Valorant Vs. Overwatch” has been topical since the beta of Riot’s team shooter. Recently, former Overwatch pro Daniel “Dafran” Francesco moved to Valorant, where he promptly caused a scandal. , he didn’t show up for a tournament game, then he called the organizers and other players wild names and was subsequently banned from Twitch.
