Emerald King is a brand new video slot from Pragmatic Play, based on an Irish leprechaun. Emerald King has five reels, three rows and 20 fixed paylines, and players can spin the reels from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has a payout rate of 96.51% and bonus features include colossal symbols, win multipliers and a mini-reel feature.
Introduction
Pragmatic Play has released a huge number of games in recent years, and with their growing popularity in the online gambling community, the number of games released each month is also growing. Emerald King is one of the latest slots to come out of the software provider’s development labs, and unsurprisingly, it takes on an Irish theme, with a leprechaun – the Emerald King – at the center of the game.
Format And Graphics
Emerald King is based on a 5-reel, 3-row format and there are 20 paylines. The paylines are “fixed”, which means that you can’t change the number of lines active on each spin. Like most Pragmatic Play slots, Emerald King offers a variety of betting options, and you can wager as little as 0.10 and as much as 100 credits on each spin. You’ll find the usual array of in-game tools, including autoplay and turbo spin, and there’s a detailed paytable and game rules if you want to see what the symbols will pay or how the bonus features work.
Unfortunately, Emerald King just isn’t quite right for us from a design perspective. The reels are overlaid on what looks like a mountain scene, and there are two castles on either side of the reels. There’s a funky Irish-inspired soundtrack that’s pretty entertaining – but don’t expect anything too impressive on the graphics side of things here. Payout Rate (RTP) And Volatility
Emerald King has a payout percentage of 96.51%, which is a tiny bit above average in today’s slot market. It is also rated as volatile, so the 20,000x top prize makes sense.
Emerald King’s Symbols And Payouts
Unfortunately, we feel that Pragmatic Play was a bit sloppy when it comes to the symbol design in Emerald King. So many of the game developer’s slots are designed in stunning, crisp HD – and they’ve put so much design and development work into their games that we’ve become accustomed to seeing high-quality graphics and images throughout.
Emerald King, on the other hand, looks pretty simple when you turn to the symbols. They use the same playing card values we see in games released five years ago – Wolf Gold, for example – and they look just a bit…. boring looking. The lower paying symbols in the game are all playing card values, including 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace.
However, there are some higher paying symbols – again, we’re not particularly impressed with their design. The symbols that are in the middle of the payout include cherries and grapes – and another middleman is the Emerald King himself, which awards a payout of 2.5X, 5X, and/or 25X for forming a 3, 4, or 5 combination of him.
Emerald King’s best paying symbol is the wild, which is represented by a pot of gold. The wild substitutes for all other symbols in the game (there are no scatter symbols, so you don’t have to worry about that), and it also has its own paytable. The wild symbol awards a payout worth 50x, 100x and 500x your bet if you manage to form a 3, 4 or 5 combination – so there’s actually a pretty decent win potential, especially since the wild symbols – like all other symbols – are stacked.
Colossal Symbols
The last thing to note here is that symbols can appear singly (meaning three symbols land on each reel), but they can also appear as colossal symbols, meaning they can land as 2X2 or 3X3 symbols. 3X3 symbols are quite rare (especially on the first three reels), but the 2X2 symbols seem to appear quite often, and they can contribute to some decent wins if you line everything up correctly. The wild symbol can also appear as a colossal symbol, which is a plus.
Emerald King Bonus Features
In Emerald King, there are some bonus features to be aware of – and this may come as a surprise to players who start the slot without knowing much about it. Given the rather classic look, design and feel, you’d be forgiven for assuming it was simply a “line-pay” game, but as you’ll see below, that’s simply not the case. Let’s take a look at the bonus features you’ll find in Emerald King.
Win Multiplier
Perhaps the most noticeable thing you’ll notice when playing Emerald King is that every time you have a blank spin, a multiplier increases by 1X. On each subsequent spin that is not a win, this multiplier will continue to increase by 1X, and you will see the current amount of the multiplier in the upper right corner of the screen.
There is no limit to how high this multiplier can go, and once it reaches 5X+, you can score some really big wins! It’s a strange mechanic because, oddly enough, you’re actually hoping not to win during the game. At least, not until the win multiplier has increased by a significant amount. As soon as you make a win, the multiplier resets to 1X.
Mini Slots
On each spin of the base game, one of the reels of the slot machine may turn green. If all five reels turn green on a spin, you trigger Emerald King’s main bonus round – the “Mini Slots” feature. You will then receive an instant payout of 2X, and up to 15 free spins, which take place on a new bandit-like slot with only one payline. This machine is called a “mini-reel”, and the reels consist of blue, yellow and red “7” symbols – the other positions are simply empty spaces.
If you manage to land three mixed colored 7 symbols, you will win a payout worth 2 times your bet, while if you land three of the blue, yellow or red 7 symbols, you will receive a payout worth 10 times, 15 times and 20 times your bet, respectively.
There is also the possibility that when the mini-reels appear on your screen, the mini-reels will then be presented in a 2X2 or 3X3 format. When this happens, any winnings that you can form during the bonus will be multiplied. This multiplier value is random, and you’ll see it in the upper right corner of the screen, in the same place where the base game’s win multiplier appears.
This is essentially a Reel King-like bonus round, but Pragmatic Play have given things a nice little twist with the addition of the multiplier.
Our verdict on Emerald King
Emerald King is a pretty unique slot from Pragmatic Play – and that’s because it combines both an old-school look and feel with the game developer’s modern graphics and animations. While at first glance you might think it’s just another retro-inspired slot with little to offer other than big line wins, Emerald King has a lot going for it – and that only becomes clear when you see the colossal symbols make their way into the mix.
We are, however, a little disappointed that Pragmatic Play has reverted to an Irish theme. To us, it feels a bit lazy – and having seen so much from the game developers in the past, we thought they might want to pull something else out of the bag, especially given the fierce competition that exists in online gaming today.
That being said, Emerald King is a game worth playing – and with a maximum win of up to 20,000 times your bet, you really do have a lot of winning potential here. Just be warned that the game is volatile, and it’s quite common for the slot to go through long periods where it doesn’t pay much – so we advise you to bet a little less than you normally would on games from Pragmatic Play!
Emerald King FAQs
Is Emerald King volatile?
Emerald King may not be Pragmatic Play’s most volatile slot, but it is definitely considered a high variance game. Big wins are relatively rare – but when they do come, expect 1-200X wins, and if you’re lucky, even over 1,000X!
What is the maximum win on Emerald King?
Pragmatic Play has decided to introduce a rather generous maximum win in Emerald King. You can win up to 20,000X your bet on every spin! It’s a bit less than we’ve seen from players like Extra Juicy, but it’s still a massive amount of winnings – and it’s enough to make most players willing to give this Irish-inspired slot a try for themselves!
What is the payout percentage of Emerald King?
Emerald King by Pragmatic Play has a payout rate of 96.51% off. However, it is worth mentioning that the game developers offer their games in different payout variants. For this reason, we recommend you to check with the online casino you are playing at to make sure you are playing the highest possible payout version of the slot.
Does Emerald King have a progressive jackpot?
No. When it comes to progressive jackpots, Pragmatic Play is a bit behind other game developers. Some of their games do have built-in jackpots, but unlike NetEnt, Microgaming and Red Tiger Gaming, they don’t really “make” progressive jackpot slots – and accordingly, you won’t find a progressive jackpot on Emerald King. However, we think that the 20,000x win potential is more than enough to satisfy the vast majority of players!
