PoGO – Pokémon GO: What is Palkia, the legendary Pokémon from Generation 4, good for?
THOSE: NINTENDO

The release of the fourth Pokémon generation in Pokémon GO is slowly but surely casting its shadow. One more reason to take a look at upcoming legendary Raid Pokémon. One of them is the dragon/water Pokémon Palkia, which is expected to appear exclusively in Tier 5 . We’ll now explain what Palkia is capable of in the Pokémon GO -game.

The legendary Pokémon Palkia is expected to appear as a Tier 5 Raid Pokémon in Pokémon GO sometime with the release of the fourth generation. Exactly when this will be the case is still unclear at the moment – however, we can already make some assumptions about what impact Palkia will have on the Pokémon GO meta-game. Based on an article from Pokemongohub, we will now take a look at the question: What is Palkia, the legendary dragon/water Pokémon of the fourth generation, really good for?

Pokémon GO: The legendary Pokémon Palkia in the meta – General Information

Palkia is a Pokémon with the dual type Dragon/Water that is expected to have the following stats:

  • Max CP: 4,559
  • Attack: 308
  • Defense: 247
  • Stamina: 180

This potentially pushes it into second place among the best Dragon Pokémon and first place among the best Water Pokémon. Among Dragon Pokémon, Palkia competes primarily with Knakrack, Rayquaza, Dragoran, Dialga, Brutalanda, and Latios. Here, Palkia is behind Dialga in predicted Max CP, but ahead of all other meta-relevant Dragon Pokémon.

Palkia’s Attack value, on the other hand, exceeds that of Dialga and the other Dragons. In terms of defense, Palkia ranks second behind Viscogon (DEF 283), while in terms of Stamina, it lags well behind the other relevant dragons, but can still keep up with the Pokémin Dragoran, Rayquaza, and Brutalanda currently in play.

Should Niantic apply the same nerf to Palkia as they did to Suicune, Palkia’s stats would decrease as follows:

  • Max CP: 3,818
  • Attack: 280
  • Defense: 225
  • Stamina: 164

Palkia’s attack would still be far ahead with the nerf, and would be only slightly behind Rayquaza’s (ATK 284). Only Palkia’s stamina value, which is already quite low, would take a decent hit with the nerf.

Overall, however, Palkia should establish itself primarily as an outstanding attacking Pokémon for Raid and Arena battles. As a Water Pokémon, it competes with Kyogre, which has a weaker attack (even despite the nerf), but better defense and stamina.

Palkia is also affected by the following weaknesses and resistances:

  • Resistant to: steel attacks
  • Doubly resistant to: Water and fire attacks
  • Doubly weak against: Dragon and Fairy attacks

Palkia’s Dragon attacks are especially useful against other Dragon Pokémon, while its Water attacks are effective against Ground, Rock, and Fire Pokémon.

Pokémon GO: The legendary Pokémon Palkia in the meta – Potential attacks.

Based on Palkia’s form in the classic Pokémon games, as well as the attacks currently available to Dragon and Water Pokémon in Pokémon GO, the following attacks would be conceivable for Palkia upon release:

  • Dragon Claw (Charge Attack, Dragon Type).
  • Rage Attack (Charge Attack, Dragon Type)
  • Dragon Pulse (Charge Attack, Dragon Type)
  • Draco Meteor (Charge Attack, Dragon Type)
  • Space Strike (charge attack, dragon type)
  • Fire Ember (normal attack, dragon type)
  • Dragon Rod (normal attack, dragon type)
  • Hydropump (charge attack, water type)
  • Wet Tail (charge attack, water type)
  • Aquawave (charge attack, water type)
  • Boiling Water (Charge Attack, Water Type)
  • Surfer (Charge Attack, Water Type)
  • Thunder (Charge Attack, Electric Type)
  • Thunder Lightning (Charge Attack, Electro Type)
  • Breakthrough (Charge Attack, Combat Type)
  • Focus Strike (Charge Attack, Combat Type)
  • Ancient Power (Charge Attack, Rock Type)
  • Jewel Power (Charge Attack, Rock Type)
  • Rock Grave (Charge Attack, Rock Type)
  • Stone Edge (Charge Attack, Rock Type)
  • Stone Hail (Charge Attack, Rock Type)
  • Flame Throw (Charge Attack, Fire Type)
  • Firestorm (Charge Attack, Fire Type)
  • Aero-Ass (Charge Attack, Flight Type)
  • Earthquake (Charge Attack, Ground Type)
  • Steamroller (Charge Attack, Ground Type)
  • Hyper Beam (Charge Attack, Normal Type)
  • Ice Ray (Charge Attack, Ice Type)
  • Blizzard (charge attack, ice type)
  • Power Reserve (normal attack, normal type)
  • Dark Claw (normal attack, type Spirit)

Palkia’s attacks and defense can be affected by the following Weather conditions to be affected:

  • Rain: Boosts Palkia’s water attacks
  • Wind: Boosts Palkia’s dragon attacks
  • Cloudy: Boosts fairy attacks against Palkia
  • Wind: Boosts dragon attacks against Palkia

Overall, Palkia is a worthy fourth-generation legendary Pokémon that has the potential to be a powerful attacking Pokémon with solid defense stats when it is released in Pokémon GO. By the way, you can read more news and guides about Pokémon GO on our Pokémon GO topic page.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
