The legendary Pokémon Giratina is currently a hot candidate to succeed Regirock in the Pokémon GO raid and could herald the start of the fourth Pokémon generation. So that you know whether the effort for the Dragon Spirit Pokémon is really worth it when the time comes, we have compiled the most important information about Giratina for you here.
Since the release of Pokémon GO, the raids with legendary Pokémon have been the highlight of the game. After the last legendary Pokémon of the third generation, Regirock, was available in Raids and the first hints of the release of the fourth generation appeared, many fans are eagerly awaiting the next Raid – potentially with a legendary Pokémon of the fourth generation, namely Giratina.
Giratina is a legendary Pokémon of the Spirit and Dragon types. With its outstanding stats, it is expected to have a very good meta performance and could become not only the best Spirit Pokémon, but also the best Dragon Pokémon, surpassing even Rayquaza and Dragoran. We’ll explain why now, based on an analysis by Pokemongohub.
Pokémon GO: Giratina’s stats in comparison
Giratina will likely have the following stats when released in Pokémon GO: maximum CP of 3,965, attack 206, defense 247, and stamina 300, surpassing all other major Spirit and Dragon Pokémon below it in terms of CP, defense, and stamina:
- Dialga: 3,897 CP, 275 attack, 220 defense, 182 stamina.
- Knackrack: 3,823 CP, 261 attack, 198 defense, 216 stamina
- Palkia: 3,818 CP, 280 attack, 225 defense, 164 stamina
- Rayquaza: 3,645 CP, 284 attack, 170 defense, 191 stamina
- Latios: 3,644 CP, 268 attack, 228 defense, 160 stamina
- Dragoran: 3,581 CP, 263 attack, 201 defense, 182 stamina
- Gengar: 2,619 CP, 261 attack, 156 defense, 120 stamina
- Traunmagil: 2,465 CP, 211 attack, 211 defense, 120 stamina
What Giratina lacks in attack power compared to the above Pokémon – Giratina has its lowest value – the Spirit-Dragon hybrid makes up for with its high CP, Stamina, and Defensive values. This makes Giratina extremely resilient, giving it the ability to last longer in battle and thus deal more damage in the long run compared to other Dragon and Spirit Pokémon. However, this is dependent on Giratina’s attacks.
Pokémon GO: Giratina’s potential attacks.
According to Pokemongohub, based on the attacks it possessed in the main game series and those used by other Spirit and Dragon Pokémon in Pokémon GO, Giratina could have the following attacks:
- Dark Claw (normal attack, Spirit type).
- Licker (normal attack, Spirit type)
- Burden (normal attack, spirit type)
- Astonisher (normal attack, spirit type)
- Dragon Rod (normal attack, type Dragon)
- Fire Ember (normal attack, type Dragon)
- Haunted Ball (Charge Attack, Spirit Type)
- Night Mist (Charge Attack, Spirit Type)
- Calamity Gusts (Charge Attack, Spirit Type)
- Scheming Power (Charge Attack, Spirit Type)
- Rage Attack (Charge Attack, Dragon Type)
- Dragon Pulse (Charge Attack, Dragon Type)
- Whirlwind (Charge Attack, Dragon Type)
- Dragon Claw (Charge Attack, Dragon Type)
With the Spirit/Dragon type combination, Giratana is vulnerable to Spirit, Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Unlight attacks. However, it has increased defense against Poison, Bug, Fire, Water, Plant, and Electric type attacks, as well as immunity to Normal and Combat attacks. Since Giratana’s potential Spirit attacks work particularly effectively against Psycho Pokémon, Giratana is expected to be especially useful in battling various Raid bosses like Mewtu.
- When it comes to weather effects, there’s also a lot to consider with Giratina’s dual type:
- Fog boosts Spirit attacks – both from and against Giratina, as well as Unlight attacks.
- Cloudy weather increases Fairy attacks – this could be uncomfortable for Giratina.
- Windy weather increases Dragon attacks – also both from and against Giratina.
- Snow gives ice attacks a higher penetrating power. So again, be careful with Giratina.
Depending on which moveset Giratina ends up with, the Pokémon will either make an excellent attacker (good moveset) or – like Lugia – a resilient defensive Pokémon (poor moveset). All in all, Giratina should be a very worthwhile catch when it is released, and it could shake up the Pokémon GO metagame in a big way.
So if Niantic decides to usher in the release of the fourth generation with Giratina as the next raid boss, we’ll certainly be in for a battle worthy of a legendary raid and definitely worth the effort. Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.
Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More
The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
