PoGO – Pokémon GO: These are the best mon of the fourth generation (Guide)

The fourth generation of Pokémon is now waiting in the wings in Pokémon GO. Many players are therefore currently asking: Which of the new monsters is really worth the effort of catching and improving? We shed some light on this question with our guide and reveal the ten best Pokémon of the fourth generation.

A little more than two years after its release, the pool of available Pokémon in Pokémon GO has grown to four generations. However, the fourth-generation Pokémon have only been making the game world unsafe for a short time, which is why many players are currently asking, and rightly so, which new pocket monsters are actually best equipped for the metagame. We have therefore compiled a list of the ten best Pokémon of the fourth generation.

The following list is based on tables and lists from GamePress, Pokemongohub and Mein-MMO. We have left out legendary Pokémon. By the way, you can find a list of the best evolutions of the fourth generation in our separate guide.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Elevoltek

  • Type: Electric
  • Max. WP: 2,904

Elevoltek is one of the all-rounders among the Electric Pokémon and has a strong moveset of Electric attacks. It is ahead of Raikou in attack and DPS, but has weaker defense and stamina values. With the attack Electrocution, Elevoltek is therefore particularly suitable as an attacker in Raid battles.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Rihornior

  • Type: Ground/Stone
  • Max. WP: 3,869

Rihornior impresses with attack values of 241, a defense of 224 and a stamina of 230 as the second best ground attacker. More interestingly, however, the Pokémon is expected to take the place of the best rock Pokémon in the metagame, ranking ahead of Despotar. The reason for this is its stats: slightly behind Despotar in attack, Rihornior clearly beats its competitor in defense and stamina. Therefore, it earns its place as an attacker in the raid. However, its weakness against Water and Plant Pokémon makes it unsuitable as a defender.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Mamutel

  • Type: Ground/Ice
  • Max. WP: 3,289

Mamutel scores with a high WP value, which makes it the best Ice Pokémon in the game. Attack and stamina values are also outstanding, only defense is where Mamutel falls down compared to other Ice types. Mamutel’s extensive pool of Ice attacks makes it particularly well-suited as a Raid and Attack Pokémon, but it also makes a passable defender due to its high WP.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Rameidon

  • Type: Rock
  • Max. WP: 3,179

With an attack value of 295, Rameidon is a good bit ahead of Rayquaza and only five points behind Mewtu. Combined with a decent rock attack, it can also outperform Rayquaza in terms of DPS. This makes it the second best raid counter against Togetic behind Metagross.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Knackrack

  • Type: Dragon/Ground
  • Max. WP: 3,823

Knackrack is the better Dragoran: It has 34 points more stamina, but only loses two points in attack and three in defense in comparison. How well Knackrack actually does in the meta, however, depends on its attacks. If these are right, Knackrack could compete with Groudon in particular as the potential best ground Pokémon.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Roserade

  • Type: Plant/Poison
  • Max. WP: 2,783

Due to good WP and attack values, Roserade will probably take the place as the best Poison Pokémon in the game. In terms of WP, it is ahead of Sleimok and in terms of attack, it is in second place behind Gengar. With the appropriate Poison attacks, Roserade could be especially useful in the metagame as an attacker against Plant and Fairy Pokémon.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Snibunna

  • Type: Unlight/Ice
  • Max. WP: 2,815

Compared to other Unlight Pokémon, Snibunna does well with high attack and defense values. Among Ice-types, it currently trails only the Ground/Ice Pokémon Mamutel (see above) in attack. Because of its relatively low stamina, Snibunna is expected to replace Rossana as the DPS glass cannon. However, it is heavily dependent on its movepool.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Galagladi

  • Type: Fighting/Psycho
  • Max. WP: 2,964

Galagladi has the potential to replace Machomei as the best Fighting Pokémon. It has more WP as well as better attack and stronger defense, while only lagging behind in stamina value. With high defensive stats and the combination of Fighting and Psycho types, Galagladi is expected to be primarily suited as an attacker in Pokémon arenas filled with Normal Pokémon. Against Rock and Steel type raid bosses, Galagladi could also prove useful as a potential best Fighting Pokémon.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Tangoloss

  • Type: Plant
  • Max. WP: 3,110

The WP value of Tangoloss exceeds that of all other plant Pokémon. In addition, it has solid attack, defense, and stamina values, making Tangoloss quite competitive with Celebi. In the metagame, this Pokémon could take the place of the best attack and defense Pokémon of the Plant type, even displacing Kokowei. In fact, in terms of performance, Tangoloss outperforms all other plant-type Pokémon except Kokowei.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Magnezone

  • Type: Electric/Steel
  • Max. WP: 2,996

Magnezone has the best defense value of any Electric Pokémon in Pokémon GO. In addition, it ranks third in WP and Attack behind Raikou and Zapdos. Magnezone is therefore an excellent addition to your Electric team when fighting Water Pokémon. This makes it suitable as a Raid counter as well as an attacker against Arena Pokémon. Another advantage of Magnezone is that you can easily evolve it due to the high availability of Magnetilo.

Pokémon GO: The best Pokémon of the fourth generation – Togekiss

  • Type: Fairy/Flight
  • Max. WP: 3,171

Togekiss has the highest CP of all Fairy Pokémon and also has good Attack and Defense stats. As a Fairy-type Pokémon, Togekiss should quickly earn a spot on your Raid team against legendary bosses Palkia and Giratina. It can also be used as a counter against various third-generation Raid bosses. However, there is one drawback: Unfortunately, Togekiss is quite hard to get, because you can only evolve it from the also quite rare Pokémon Togepi.

We hope that our will help you in your hunt for the best Pokémon of the fourth generation in Pokémon GO. As usual, you can find the latest news and other guides about the game on our Pokémon GO topic page.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
