PoGO – Pokémon GO: The 12 new Gen 4 evolutions you absolutely want to have

With the 4th generation in Pokémon Go, not only new pocket monsters come into play, but also evolutions for old acquaintances, such as Magnetilo, Rihorn and Magmar. Although the evolutions are not yet unlocked, we take a look at which of them can be worthwhile in the Pokémon Go meta.

In Pokémon Go, around 26 new 4th generation pocket monsters are currently waiting to be hunted and caught by you. According to the developers at Niantic, more Pokémon of the 4th generation, which includes over 100 beasts, will be unlocked in waves. No timetable is known for this, but of course we know which Pokémon the generation from the Shinnoh region includes – among others, evolutions of Pokémon from generations 1, 2, and 3. The Pokémon fans at Pokémon Go Hub have compiled which of these could do particularly well in the Pokémon Go metagame. We won’t rank them, though, because each of the evolutions has its own characteristics as well as advantages and disadvantages.

Elektekk becomes Elevoltek. And Elevoltek will have the “Surge” skill at its disposal, which makes Elevoltek similarly strong as Raikou. On some occasions, you’ll still want to switch to Raikou because the Pokémon simply withstands more damage. However, Raikou isn’t available all the time in the game now either. If you don’t have one, you’ll be well advised to go with Elevoltek.

Folipurba is another evolution from Evoli. What needs to be done after unlocking by the trainers among you to get secured a Folipurba is not yet known. Maybe you’ll just have to name the Evoli Zoey when evolving, but maybe it won’t be that simple. One of the strongest plant attackers is Bisaflor, though Folipurba offers higher stats. While both Folipurba and Bisaflor are likely to be outclassed by Tangoloss, Folipurba is an alternative if you can’t develop a good Tangoloss. “Solar Beam” and “Razor Leaf” (if it’s purely for plant damage) are the attacks you’ll want to give your Folipurba then.

The second new evolution from an Evoli is Glaziola. Again, it’s not yet known if you’ll be able to evolve the Ice Pokémon specifically or if you’ll have to rely on your luck. With the fourth generation, however, there are finally viable Ice Pokémon among the attackers, and Glaziola is one of them, especially because it should take a little more damage than Snibunna. If you don’t have an ice alternative, Glaziola will come in handy; after all, Evoli’s evolution only costs 25 candies. “Ice Demon” and “Avalanche” are the attacks of your choice.

After unlocking the evolutions, Kirlia can become not only Guardevoir, but also Galagladi. However, the professionals among the trainers of Pokémon Go do not expect very much from Galagladi, because there are considerably stronger alternatives as a battle Pokémon. Nevertheless, you should not ignore the fact that Galagladi is also a Psycho Pokémon and is therefore immune to the fairly common Psycho attack “Zen Headbutt”, while it also does not have to fear attacks from Beetle or Unlight Pokémon.

Magmar becomes Magbrant after unlocking (and investing in candies and a Magmaizer, if necessary).Although you have better options with Flammara, Lavados, and Entei, Magbrant can be worthwhile especially if you don’t have any of these strong Fire Pokémon in your collection. Magbrant should at least have the attacks “Fire Storm” and “Fire Whirl” to cause good damage.

After Magnetilo comes Magneton – and soon after that comes Magnezone. And Magnezone might only be popular if it has the attacks “Spark Jump” and “Surge” – and because it’s easier to get than Raikou and Elevoltek. After all, the two are still better positioned in terms of damage. However, if neither of these are available to you, then Magnezone is quite capable.

Squeak becomes Keifel and a Keifel becomes a Mamutel in the 4th generation of Pokémon. Mamutel not only deals powerful, but can also take a beating. Mamutel’s ground attacks may be trumped by its ice attacks. You’ll want to keep an eye out for the Powder Snow and Avalanche to make Mamutel a powerful attacker. As a defender, it can also be worthwhile, though not necessarily if Heiteira has already been deployed into the arena. Both mon have a weakness to battle Pokémon. On top of that, Mamutel takes more damage from relatively common attack types like Fire and Water.

Porygon2 becomes Porygon-Z with the 4th generation in Pokémon Go. In and of itself, Porygon-Z has a nice attack base value that could certainly shred some Pokémon with ease. However, the Normal Pokémon doesn’t have very attractive skills. Only “Hyper Beam” is dangerous for Porygon-Z’s opponents, unless they dodge it.

Rihorn’s evolution Rizeros is already very popular – Rihornior, the second evolution, will become even more popular. If you didn’t equip Despotar for Larvitar Community Day, Rihornior will be your next choice, even though the Stone Pokémon isn’t the strongest attacker in its class. You’ll want to keep an eye out for the “Catapult” and “Stone Edge” attacks when doing so. Stronger will probably be Rameidon, the evolution of Koknodon – but you’ll have to collect enough candies for it first, and it’s not yet possible to estimate how rare the Mon will be.

Roselia can be evolved in Roserade in maybe not so distant future. And then the poison skills “Poison Blow” and “Mud Bomb” as well as the plant skills “Razor Leaf” and “Solar Beam” will be worthwhile. However, you should probably put more emphasis on the plant attacks, since there aren’t as many Fairy Pokémon to use against, which is where the poison attacks make the most sense. You’ll be using Roserade as an attacker rather than a defender, because Roserade has attacks superior to those of Kapilz, for example.

Sniebel can be developed into Snibunna in the future. The advantage of Snibunna as an attacker is that it can attack with ice and unlight skills. While Snibunna takes less damage than Despotar, the attack combo “Feint” and “Parasite” should compensate for the loss of stamina with higher damage. If you want to give your Snibunna ice attacks, see if you can get “Ice Shatter” and “Avalanche”. However, it’s likely that Snibunna makes more sense as an Unlight attacker – especially since Deoxys isn’t going to disappear from the arenas anytime soon.

Tangela can evolve into a Tangoloss after unlocking. Especially the Pokémon’s defensive stats will make it a valid alternative to Folipurba and also Bisaflor. Tangoloss’ shortcoming is that it is only a plant Pokémon and therefore doesn’t match up as well with main defenders like Heiteira as Bisaflor does. You should consider Tangoloss as an attacker rather than a defender. Also with Tangoloss, you want to look for the Charge Attack “Solar Beam”, which is matched by “Tendril Strike”.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from .gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
