PoGO – Pokémon Go: Rayquaza as Raid Boss & Shiny – Current Counter Guide

Rayquaza, one of the strongest Dragon Pokémon in Pokémon Go, is briefly back in the Tier 5 Raids of Niantic’s Pocket Monsters app. In our updated counter guide to Rayquaza, we tell you which Pokémon with which attacks you should use in battle.

Update from March 24, 2021: We’ve given our Rayquaza counter guide another update, as there’s a Rayquaza special raid event this weekend (March 28 and 29, 2021) as part of Weather Week in Pokémon Go – in Tier 5 Raids, Rayquaza may appear alongside Animal Spirit Voltolos from March 28, 2020 starting at 10:00 am until March 29, 2021 at 8:00 pm. If you want to take up the fight to catch Rayquaza even as a Shiny or with a 100% IV value if you’re lucky, it’s best to use the following ice counters to defeat the dragon. By the way, Rayquaza is guaranteed to learn the charge attack Gale during the weather week.

  • Mega rexblisar with powder snow and meteorologist
  • Galar flampivian with ice tooth and avalanche
  • Mamutel with powder snow and avalanche
  • Glaziola with ice breath and avalanche
  • Snibunna with icepilter and avalanche
  • Mewtu with psycho blade and ice ray
  • Rossana with ice breath and avalanche
  • Siberio with powder snow and ice blast
  • Gelatwino with ice breath and blizzard
  • Kyurem with fire breath and blizzard
  • Rexblisar with Powder Snow and Meteorologist
  • Arktos with ice breath and ice blast

Update, July 27, 2020: It’s been about a year since you’ve been able to battle the legendary Rayquaza in Pokémon Go’s Tier 5 arenas – and get your hopes up for a shimmering one or two, too. As part of the Dragon Week event, the first hyperbonus from Pokémon Go Fest 2020, PoGo players will have the chance to challenge Rayquaza as a raid boss again. As a reminder, Rayquaza is best attacked with ice attacks because it takes double the damage from them. At level 20, a Rayquaza has a perfect 100% IV with 2,191 CP; boosted to level 25 in windy weather, Rayquaza’s CP is a measly 2,739 with a perfect 100% IV. It’s best to use the following counters:

  • Crypto-Mewtu with Psycho Blade and Ice Beam
  • Mamutel with powder snow and avalanche
  • Crypto-Snibunna with ice shard and avalanche
  • Glaziola with ice breath and avalanche
  • Snibunna with ice shard and avalanche
  • Mewtu with psycho blade and ice ray
  • Rossana with ice breath and avalanche
  • Siberio with powder snow and ice blast
  • Gelatwino with ice breath and blizzard
  • Arktos with ice breath and blizzard
  • We wish you good luck in the hunt!

Original news: Trainers will soon be able to take on a new legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO: the dragon/flight monster Rayquaza. Rayquaza is a Tier 5 raid boss with 49,808 Health and 2,102 to 2,191 Catch CP at level 20. The Pokémon benefits from windy weather, which increases its Catch CP to 2,627 to 2,739 at level 25, and boosts its attacks in battle. To defeat Rayquaza, you will need a total of two to four high-level trainers, or five to twenty low-level trainers. To make your next raid battle a success, we’ve put together a of based on a guide from Go Hub.

Rayquaza relies on the following possible attacks in battle according to its dragon/flight type:

– Dragon Rod (Dragon type, instant attack)

– Air Cut (Type Flight, Instant Attack)

– Rage Attack (Type Dragon, Charge Attack)

– Aero-Ass (Type Flight, Charge Attack)

– Ancient Power (Rock type, Charge Attack)

Because Rayquaza doesn’t have any overly dangerous charged attacks aside from Rage Attack, battling the legendary Pokémon turns out to be relatively easy. As counter Pokémon, you’ll rely primarily on Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Rock Pokémon against Rayquaza, which have the most effective attacks against the legendary Tier 5 boss. However, since Rage Attack is Rayquaza’s strongest and most dangerous attack, it’s better not to rely on Dragons as attackers, since there are now much more useful Ice attackers. Here, the following Pokémon with the corresponding attacks are primarily worthwhile:

– Mamutel with Powder Snow and Avalanche

– Glaziola with ice breath and avalanche

– Snibunna with Ice Shard and Avalanche

– Mewtu with Psycho Blade and Ice Beam

– Rossana with ice breath and avalanche

Other useful counters to fill gaps in your attacking :

– Arktos with ice breath and ice ray

– Austos with ice breath and avalanche

– Regice with ice breath and blizzard

– Walraisa with Ice Gem and Blizzard

– Lapras with ice breath and ice ray

– Firnontor with ice breath and avalanche

– Dragoran with dragon rod and rage attack

– Porygon-Z with charge beam and blizzard

– Frosdedje with powder snow and avalanche

– Despotar with Catapult and Stone Edge

– Rayquaza with Dragon Rod and Rage Attack

Because Rayquaza has a double weakness to ice attacks, it’s best to team up with Mamutel and Snibunna or Glaziola in the raid to finish off the boss as quickly and effortlessly as possible.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
