Trainers can currently encounter a whole range of Tier 3 raid bosses in Pokémon GO, which can also be defeated single-handedly with the right preparation. We have therefore summarized a number of tips for you, which should help you to succeed.
If you want to enjoy the raid content in Pokémon GO, you usually do so in a group with other trainers. However, certain raids can also be mastered alone with a little preparation and skill. The Tier 3 Raids are especially suitable for solo battles, because you can expect strong Pokémon that can enrich your collection. To help you defeat and catch the current Tier 3 Raid Pokémon as easily as possible solo, we have summarized various tips for the individual Raid battles based on the corresponding solo guides from Pokemongohub.
Pokémon GO: Tier-3-Raids only – Rossana (easy)
Rossana is one of the Tier 3 Raid Bosses that you can defeat very easily with the right counter Pokémon. Because Rossana is a dual-type Ice/Psycho Pokémon, you are especially well-positioned with Fire-type counters. Rossana has a Boss CP of 18,296 and poor defense, so it has virtually no defense against your Fire attacks.
In raid combat, Rossana can have the following attacks:
- Confusion (Psycho, normal attack).
- Ice Death (Ice, normal attack)
- Avalanche (Ice, charged attack)
- Psyshock (Psycho, charged attack)
- Thieves Kiss (Fairy, charged attack)
Because Rossana is particularly sensitive to attacks of Beetle, Unlight, Fire, Rock, Steel, and Spirit types, your best bet is to use the following counter Pokémon:
- Entei (Fire Type) with Fire Fang and Heat Fury.
- Lavados (Type Fire/Flight) with Fire Whirl and Heat Fury
- Despotar (type rock/unlight) with bite and crunch
- Mewtu (type psycho) with psycho blade and spook ball
- Flamara (type Fire) with Fire Whirl and Heat Fury
- Gengar (type Spirit) with low blow (or burden/dark claw, if available) and available) and spookball
- Hundemon (type fire/unlight) with fire fang and parasite
You’ll have the best cards against Rossana in solo mode if you use Fire attacks in sunny weather. Also, Pokémon with good defense will help you against the high DPS values of Rossana’s ice attacks.
Pokémon GO: Tier 3 Raids solo – ALoLa Raichu (easy)
As with Rossana, you’ll have a relatively easy time with the Electro/Psycho Pokémon ALoLa-Raichu. It has a boss CP value of 16,178 and proves weak to unlight, ground, ghost, and bug type attacks. In the Raid, ALoLa-Raichu relies on the following potential attacks:
- Spark Jump (normal attack, electric).
- Volt Change (normal attack, electric)
- Surge (charged attack, electric)
- Seer (charged attack, Psycho)
- Thunderclap (charged attack, Electro)
If you want to defeat Raichu as effortlessly as possible, go for the following counter Pokémon:
- Gengar (Spirit type) with Dark Claw and Spookball.
- Mewtu (type Psycho) with Psycho Blade and Spookball
- Despotar (Type Rock/Unlight) with Bite and Crunch
- Groudon (type ground) with clay shot and earthquake
- Hundemon (type Fire/Unlight) with Standpunch and Parasite
- Absol (type unlight) with tirade and dark aura
- Banette (type Ghost) with Dark Claw and Haunted Ball
- Scherox (type Beetle/Steel) with Fury Blade/Bug Bite and Cross Scissors
- Tohaido (type water/unlight) with bite and crusher
- Simsala (type Psycho) with Psycho Blade and Haunted Ball
The easiest way to defeat ALoLa Raichu is to challenge the adversary with Gengar including Psycho Blade and Haunted Ball in foggy weather. Raichu’s attacks get a boost in windy and rainy weather.
Pokémon GO: Tier 3 Raids solo – Starmie (medium)
To defeat Starmie in a solo raid, you’ll have to work a little harder than you did with Rossana and ALoLa-Raichu. Starmie is of the Water/Psycho dual type and has 17,384 raid boss CP. Because Starmie has fairly low defense and stamina stats, you can defeat it fairly quickly with counters that rely on Electric, Unlight, Plant, Spirit, and Bug attacks.
Starmie can have the following attacks in the raid:
- Aquankarre (Water, normal attack)
- Power Reserve (Normal, Normal Attack)
- Hydropump (Water, charged attack)
- Seer (Psycho, charged attack)
- Jewel Power (Rock, charged attack)
Most of Starmie’s attacks get a boost in rainy weather. The easiest way to get against Starmie is with the following counter Pokémon:
- Raikou (Electric type) with Thunder Shock and Surge.
- Zapdos (Type Electric) with Charge Beam and Thunder Bolt
- Mewtu (Type Psycho) with Psycho Blade and Spook Ball
- Blitza (type Elektro) with thunder shock and thunder lightning
- Despotar (type rock/unlight) with bite and crunch
- Groudon (type ground) with clay shot and solar beam
- Kokowei (type plant) with sphere seed and solar beam
- Tengulist (Plant/Unlight type) with razor blade and leaf blade
- Rayquaza (type dragon/flight) with dragon rod and rage attack
In addition, you can make the fight against Starmie easier if you use Pokémon that can use plant attacks when the weather is sunny.
Pokémon GO: Tier 3 solo raids – Simsala (hard)
In the case of Simsala, you have to expect fierce resistance if you want to defeat the Psycho Pokémon solo. Simsala has 22,646 Boss CP and is weak to Beetle, Unlight, and Spirit type attacks. In the Raid, it can have the following attacks:
- Psycho Blade (Psycho, normal attack).
- Confusion (Psycho, normal attack)
- Haunted Ball (Spirit, charged attack)
- Focus Strike (Combat, charged attack)
- Seer (Psycho, charged attack)
Which attacks Simsala uses in the raid will largely determine your chances of winning this solo raid. If Simsala uses Psycho Blade in combination with Seer or Focus Strike, you’ll have an easy time. Confusion and Psycho Blade in combination with Seer and Haunted Ball, on the other hand, are a bit more challenging. The hardest part is when Simsala uses Confusion in combination with Focus Strike or Haunted Ball.
To maximize your chances in battle against Simsala, use the following Pokémon as counters:
- Mewtu (Psycho type) with Psycho Blade and Spook Ball.
- Despotar (type Rock/Unlight) with Bite and Crunch
- Gengar (Type Spirit) with Burden and Haunted Ball
- Banette (type spirit) with dark claw and haunted ball
- Absol (type unlight) with tirade and dark aura
- Hundemon (type fire/unlight) with tirade and parasite
- Simsala (type Psycho) with Psychoblade and Spookball
- Rayquaza (type dragon/flight) with dragon rod and tantrum
- Dragoran (type Dragon/Flight) with Dragon Rod and Rage Attack
- Brutalanda (Type Dragon/Flight) with Dragon Rod and Draco Meteor
To maximize your chances in the solo raid against Simsala, you should also keep the following tips in mind:
- Avoid challenging Simsala alone in windy weather. alone in windy weather. This is because his enhanced psychic attacks will knock you out too quickly. You have a better chance with Spirit and Unlight Pokémon in foggy weather if Simsala doesn’t have Spookball.
- Do not use Pokémon that are particularly sensitive to Psycho attacks in battle against Simsala, unless they have particularly good CP and DPS values.
- Expect to fail in the first attempt – and pack enough revitalizers and potions for new attempts accordingly.
- Wait until you reach level 30 to solo Simsala.
Pokémon GO: Tier 3 Raids solo – Lepumentas (very hard)
The ultimate solo challenge currently offers you the dual-type Ground/Psycho Pokémon Lepumentas. Lepumentas has 13,450 Boss CP and an outstanding defense of 236 points. The Pokémon is weak to Unlight, Plant, and Water type attacks. In the Raid, it can use the following attacks:
- Confusion (Psycho, normal attack).
- Special Sensor (Psycho, normal attack)
- Psychokinesis (Psycho, charged attack)
- Earthquake (Ground, charged attack)
- Gyroball (Steel, charged attack)
You will have the easiest time when Lepumentas uses the attacks Special Sensor and Psychokinesis. Psycho attacks are best countered with Unlight Pokémon, while Steel attacks are best countered with Water Pokémon. The following counter Pokémon are most useful against Lepumentas:
- Kyogre (Water type) with Waterfall and Hydro Pump.
- Garados (Water/Flight type) with Waterfall and Hydro Pump
- Mewtu (type psycho) with confusion and haunted ball
- Despotar (type rock/unlight) with bite and crunch
- Gengar (type spirit) with shadow claw and haunted ball
- Aquana (type water) with aqua ratchet and hydro pump
- Groudon (type ground) with clay shot and solar beam
- Kokowei (type plant) with sphere seed and solar beam
- Brutalanda (type dragon/flight) with dragon rod and hydro pump
- Noktuska (type Plant/Unlight) with Low Blow and Shrubber
- Hundemon (type fire/unlight) with tirade and parasite
- Rossana (type ice/psyche) with ice breath and avalanche
- Lapras (type water/ice) with ice breath and surfer
Also note the following tips when fighting Lepumentas:
- When Lepumentas uses the Earthquake attack, you should not fight with Dogemon or Despotar, as these two Pokémon take heavy damage from Earthquake.
- In foggy weather, you have a particularly good chance with Pokémon that can use Unlight and Spirit type attacks. Rainy weather boosts your Water and Beetle attacks against Lepumentas.
- Wind boosts your Dragon attacks, but also boosts Lepumenta’s Psych attacks.
- Sunny weather boosts your Plant attacks, but also Lepumenta’s Ground attacks.
- In snow, your ice attacks are stronger, but Lepumenta’s steel attacks also cause additional damage.
We hope that our tips for the various Tier 3 raid bosses will make it easier for you to defeat these Pokémon in the solo raid and catch them afterwards. In any case, we wish you every success in your hunt. As usual, you can read more news about Pokémon GO on our Pokémon GO topic page.
Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.
Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More
The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
