Arktos and Lugia are two legendary Pokémon that can currently be caught in Pokémon Go. In addition, Zapdos and Lavados will become available in the coming days. Defeating a legendary Pokémon in PoGo in a raid may be easy, but catching it is another matter entirely. But with a few tips, you can increase your chances.
Legendary Pokémon can currently be caught in Pokémon Go. Currently, Arktos and Lugia can get you into the Pokéball, Lavados will appear from July 31, and it will be Zapdos’ turn from August 7. However, there is a big difference between “defeating a legendary Pokémon in a raid” and “catching a legendary Pokémon”. The latter is not that easy, as the operators of the PokémonGoHub website have discovered from their database records. Arktos, Zapdos and Lavados can be caught with a basic chance of three percent, Lugia is even a bit more defensible – on average, Lugia can be banned into the Pokéball with a chance of two percent. But of course, there are one or two factors that affect your chances of being caught.
Epimetheos has created a graphic in the SilphRoad Reddit that shows exactly how throwing techniques and the use of Himmih Berries affect your chances of catching Lugia. According to this, if you have the prospect of throwing a Pokéball at a legendary Pokémon, you should throw a golden Himmihberry at the mon’s feet and attempt a Curveball throw. Because by all appearances, just throwing the Pokéball (which should be your best quality, of course) in a curve with a normal throw quadruples your chance of catching it. To do this, you touch the Pokéball on your display before throwing it and move it in a circular motion – pros have long since mastered the curveball.
Litter type | |||||
Berry | Curveball | Normal | Class | Great | Fabulous |
No Berry | No | 3.00% | 3.45% | 4.50% | 5.55% |
No berry | Yes | 5.10% | 5.87% | 7.65% | 9.44% |
Himmihbeere | No | 4,50% | 5,18% | 6,75% | 8,33% |
Celery berry | Yes | 7,65% | 8,80% | 9,44% | 11,48% |
Golden raspberry | No | 7,50% | 8,63% | 11,25% | 13,88% |
Golden raspberry | Yes | 12,75% | 14,66% | 19,13% | 23,59% |
The different types of throws are defined as follows: When you touch the Pokéball, a circle will appear above the Mon you want to catch, and it will get smaller. If it is still relatively large and you throw the ball into the circle, then – if the Mon was caught – “Class” will be displayed. If the circle has already shrunk noticeably, you have made a “great” throw when you caught it – you will receive an XP bonus of 50 points for this. If you hit the circle when it’s very small, you’ll be shown “Fabulous” and earn an XP bonus of 100 points.
As mentioned, Lugia’s chances are lower, since according to PokémonGoHub’s data, Lugia can only be caught with a base chance of two percent.
Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.
Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More
The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
