Update of April 20, 2021: Grab them all and especially the new pocket monster Bithora, which appears for the time in Pokémon Go. Because the Temporary Research with three steps, which is part of the Environment Week, rewards you with lots of Pokémon, and among them is the new Bithora! So make sure you get to at least the third step of the research to be guaranteed to add the new mon to your collection. By the way, via the event field researches, you can meet Waumboll, Seemops, Piccolente, Igamaro, Strawickl and also Bithora during the reward encounter. For the Bithora field research, you need to use 3 Golden Himmihberries when catching Pokémon. And you will also encounter Bithora in the level 1 Raids.

Original news from April 14, 2021: Environment Week is coming up for Pokémon Go fans as part of Niantic’s sustainability campaign, and to make participating in the event a little more palatable, Environment Week brings the new pocket monster Bithora into play. You’ll also be able to find Shimmering Unratütox, and you’ll have the chance to grab free Avatar items as well as the rewards of a new Temporary Research. It is not yet known what you have to do for this, but we will add the details in this Environment Wednesday guide as soon as they are known.

As part of the sustainability campaign, there will also be small actions again, through which dedicated Pokémon Go players can contact Niantic and pick up trash in their neighborhood, for example. Depending on how many contributions are collected from the community, various extra bonuses will be unlocked for all players worldwide, on April 25, 2021 between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm. This will take the following form:

  • Level 1 (2,500 posts): Level 5 raid battles occur more frequently.
  • Level 2 (5,000 posts): A free box of three long-distance raid passes will be available in the store. Level 1 rewards will remain active.
  • Stage 3 (10,000 contributions): You will receive twice as much capture XP. Level 1 and 2 rewards remain active.

Here is the general information about Environment Week:

  • Environment Week 2021 in Pokémon Go begins on April 20, 2021 at 10:00 am and runs until April 25, 2021 at 8:00 pm.
  • The clawed duo Pokémon Bithora appears for the first time in Pokémon GO!
  • Pokémon like Sleima, Rotomurf, Unratütox, and Kastadur appear more frequently in the wild. If you’re lucky, you’ll even encounter an Iridescent Unratütox!
  • The following Pokémon hatch from 5-km eggs: Digda, Tangela, Goldini, Knospi, Kikugi, Finneon, and Rotomurf.
  • Giflor, ALoLa Kokowei, Unratütox, Bithora, and more Pokémon appear in Raid battles.
  • You’ll encounter Pokémon like Waumboll, Igamaro, and Bithora in exclusive Field Research Projects.
  • There will be an exclusive Limited Research.
  • A free Environment Week t-shirt for your avatar will be available in the store.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps.
